Well I gave up last week. After hearing rumors of 14 inches of water on the salt I made the decision not to push getting Bill's car done. I guess it was a good decision cause I wouldn't have wanted to drive his car in the little bit of water that is left on the salt. It still made me quite grumpy not to go to Bville! I might have been able to make the deadline. I had a lot of help the Monday before with assembling the chassis and installing the motor. Bill (the cars owner) showed up with a couple of buddies. Gary and Charlie....Charlie is Skidmarks here on the HAMB. I had fun chatting with him and picking his brain on some different brake set ups. He was responsible for the finned drums with Buick backing plates on Bill's car. The chassis looks real nice with the Buick drums on all corners and the Y block all dressed up. Clark
Looks good Clark, that y blocker will sound wicked with those pipes, finally got Mike's y block back today for his sedan, hopefully he will bring it to the Beaver. Keep plugging away.
I forget but I think the body was painted on tuesday. It looked good in gloss black. We were going to put the body on the next day but I gave in cause of the 14 inches of water rumor. If I would have kept up the thrash I would have had to pull the gas tank and rollbar when we got home to make the firewall between the seats and the tank. That was my biggest reason for calling it quits. Clark
Looks like they are on track to race http://www.landracing.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=93
Well fast forward a week. I got a lot done. I spent a couple of days buffing the car out. Took about 3 hours to get the body on the frame by myself. That was a trick. Lettered up the doors. Took care of the plumbing and have most of the wiring run and ready to go. I tried something new with the headers. I hope it works. I wanted white headers but not bright white. High temp only comes in bright white. So I painted them bright white high temp then put a very thin coat of the off white I used for the lettering. Basically I added a little paint to a whole lot of thinner....hope it works. Clark
Anybody see anything wrong with the way I did the line running to the clutch slave cylinder. I used hard line but I coiled it to take care of the engine movement. Clark
Six.....you wanta go to Bville next year???? Yeh I can't wait to fire this thing. Bib...yeh the boys are all out there having fun and I'm here all grumpy! Clark
Thats the same way we did a chevy truck only because that's what it came with. Shortend it from the Pass side (Stovebolt) and mounted it on the drivers side(Late model) with a few coils. Works fine so far. Next time I'll use a short length of hose for piece of mind.
I had the local parts store make my a short length of hydraulic rubber line...I had to stack some fittings to get the hard line to mate up with the hydraulic line, and now the first flare fitting in the segment is leaking bad, no matter how many times I try to lap it in or tighten it down. Tomorrow I'm reflaring the line. It's 1:17am: I've got to get that line sorted out, finish running the front brake lines to the master, bench bleed the master, bleed the clutch and brakes, adjust the brakes, pray the shifter isn't going into reverse because a couple teeth aren't in the sweet spot and they'll slide in after I roll the truck a few feet, cut a hole in the trans hump for the new shifter, put the seats back in, put the front clip back on, break in the cam, change the oil, load up a tool box some clothes and a cooler, and then Boy Wonder and I are driving it to Bonneville! I wanted to leave tonight and a hundred or two miles on it, but I'll be saving a hotel this way. Leaving tomorrow night only puts us a day behind, so we should be able to get there by Tuesday anyway. Bummer you're not going--I'd have enjoyed drooling over that car in person! -Brad
Clark, now I don't feel as bad about being a pussy and not taking you up on the offer to go! My Mom is having health problems also so I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Coupe looks AWESOME!!
looks good, i like the V8 you can be grumpy here in PA with me.....i wanted to go to bonneville too!!!
Hey Clark, Don't they have the other races in Sept(Oct)? You could go out for those. I know it wouldn't be exactly the same but it is still racing on the salt.
Dont feel too bad Clark, I didn't go this year either and have been a little bummed out, but I did fire the new roadster last night for the first time and drove it in and out of the garage so that made up for alot
I'm glad to see someone is actually putting an "A" on a "A" frame!!! I'm doing the same with my '29 roadster...chanelling it the width of the frame. Darn nice looking coupe. It should sound good with the "Y" block in it. You guys do really nice work!!!
Thanks everybody! Synthsis...Spike is with Jr, Larry, Mikey and big John. Not to mention they picked Plowboy and Inkorect up along the way. Skidmarks...should be running by next weekend. Maybe even drivable. There's a few details I'll have to take care of after it's drivable. Like the roof insert and windows. Jman..Yeh they have races in Sept but I think I'll wait til next year when my 34 is done. Maybe go to the sept race and do the 130mph class thing. It would be cool to actually run. Tommy and Pat...next year?? I was dissapointed when I heard you guys couldn't go this year. Brad ...good Luck Clark
I'd love to go next year. I'll see if I can get it into my work schedule. Also, when you have a free slot in the bay I think I've got some work for you.
Oh yea?? We DID miss it Tommy! The BNI site says that the salt is dry and they have two long courses with over 230 cars registered and inspected! They were supposed to start running this morning....
Clark,thats looking good,I dont care for the graphics,but hey,not mine.Too bad you did'nt make B-ville with it........next year.
clark your not the only that didn,t go my build went fine it was the over load of work by the way not complaining.thats in the shop could not break free.later B.
Well, you're braver than this fella, to even try for a first run w/a new car after a major build session! I'm glad you'll have some sort-out time, and the old V-8 graffic looks grand! It really defines the era of the coupe. Nice work
