Depends on model of car. Is it a 4 door or a 2 door? Cars with 2 doors have bigger doors. Are you looking for a sedan? They usually have a full framed door.........or is it a hardtop? Most of them have a half door that locks into a flip down drip rail. Things to consider!
Then you'll either have to weld up the rears and move the B pillar back to fit the larger doors from a 2 door car OR weld on longer quarter panels. Other option if you want to keep all 4 small doors but have the hardtop look, would be to find doors from a 4 door HARDTOP car. Either way, you'll need a hardtop car. Just depends on how many doors you want.
im gonna weld up the back doors and cut the frame and post off the back ones but the front ones have the frame around the vent window thats the only problem i have could i cut the vent window and frame off mine and weld in a vent window and assembly from a two door on?are they the same shape and height and width?
Hardtop cars still have a frame around the butterfly windows. Thing is, if you dont use hardtop doors and you cut down sedan doors..........the glass is gunna get lost in its tracks. It HAS to have somewhere to lean on, thats what its always done. Expect slop when you work in slop!
what?? im talking about cutting my vent windows out and welding in the ones from a 2 door it still has a frame but its skinnier and it blends more with the windshield frame will it fit?
Nah, the roof line is different. You'll have to leave your original vent window frames on the butterflys. Thing is, WHY would you cut one frame off the vent windows, just to install another? If you cut it right, it'll look like stock hardtop gear. WHY do twice the work? When I mentioned the glass will get lost in it's tracks, it was in ref to your earlier statement of using SEDAN doors. Sedan doors have a full frame that the window rolls up into..........which you stated that you were gunna cut off. That's were I meant your windows would get lost. Why not just look for a set of hardtop doors? If you're going to do it, why not do it right and rise above all the shit that people fuck up? Point being, I've got a 58 Chevy sedan *full framed doors* and with two extra firescapes *4 door*. I've cut the roof off to start my mods *don't EVER do that shit*. In the mean time, I've got my hands on the larger doors from a 2 door car.........because no matter how well you weld, the size of the door gives away the cars original model. I'm not up for that. Other thing is, in the mean time I've left my vent windows on and it fools a LOT of people into thinking it's a 2 door car. Why would I go thru the double work of installing new vent frames? I wouldn't. You also have to bear in mind that the roof line on a hardtop and sedan is WAY different. Roof lines on hardtop cars are lower, meaning the vent frame will be shorter. Right now with a sedan car, you're leaving yourself open for a big ass gap where the original vent window would have filled the opening. Just a thought. An after thought to all of this is.............when you cut the frames down on your sedan car, you'll be removing the b pillar that runs from the floor to the roof. BAD JUJU. You had better brace that frame something serious, or you'll end up with a taco'd car.
That Brandy, she knows. Listen, Grasshopper. It sounds to me like you're about to kill a 50 year old car. Remember, only you can prevent ratrodding.
oh ok thank you brandy your a lot of help i have to sit down and think it all through a little bit more (maybe a lot more ) just to clear it all up i dont, never have, and never will do sloppy dirty work period.i do the cleanest work on most jobs than any other 16 year old and have lots of people to back that up. I prove it on my car and on a daily basis at work on (customer's) motorcycles,so no im not messin up a 50 year old car
if you have a 4 door sedan and you want a 2 door hardtop, you kinda need to sell your car and buy a 2 door hardtop. Unless you have a damn good idea of what you're getting into, and how to deal with all the problems. Fortunately Brandy has told you about most of them!
