I went to the Okie Twist Off Saturday to get some pictures of the cars and people. I took my daughter and her friend and we had about half an hour to look things over. 10 Dollar gate fee for a ticket. I was unaware of this and we were limited on time, we left.

Second annual and growing, one of my friends had a car there I later found out. Now the ticket may have gotten door prizes and all kinds of things. It seems to me a lot of people did not come to spend all day at the event, as there were a couple of other car shows to go to.

Goodguys cost is $10 for me to get in and NSRA is $8 with hundreds of cars and vendors too. I wish the RBCC the best of luck and hope the car show continues. I wish I could have gotten some pics for you. Next year I will go by myself.

I decide to go Saturday morning. Put the car in the show as entering it got me and my buddy in for about the same bucks as just looking.

Bottom line, we had a good time. Met a couple HAMBers I hadn't met Kerry and Flat Top Bob, who hooked me up with a door for the A. ( another reason I was there.)

All shows go through growing pains and at my age ( god I hate saying that) all day and into the night don't happen that often anymore. lol.

I assume the joint got jumping when things cooled off. Being an old musician, I thought the bands I heard did a great job. I've played on flatbeds in the summer and it sucks.

Anyway, Always good to meet freinds old and new and look at old cars. Heres a few pics for those who weren't there.

RBCC, thanks for a good time and best of luck with the shows future, you'll work the kinks out.

  4. G V, thanks for the kind words. We had a lot of people balk at the $10 buck to get in. One thing I think some spectators didn't under stand was that the $10 got you in & out all day (pay to see bands at a venue and once you leave, you're screwed), let you hear 11 bands (with a national act), a raffle ticket and $2 beer ( I think, I didn't leave the regestration booth all day). Let's see, a goodguys show might get you a washed up '60s rehash band with 1 original member or a cheezy cover band and at a NSRA show you get ummmm, admission (Let's not forget $6 beer in a shot glass and $10 shoe leather/hamburgers). We heard alot more positive comments than negative and this was our first try at this sort of thing. We had 6 weeks of prep time, so I think we did pretty good.

My peeve is when I see a flier for a Club Sponsored "party" and it costs to get in?
And the flier said nothing about that?
Isn't "Sponsoring" sposed to cover that?

I think Spectator admissions should be the same as the local first run movie theatres charges for a Saturday night adult ticket.
"Show Car" Owners should get to display the "entertainment" for half that price, including their admission,(the sponsor to determine what they want to call a "Show Car" at their show.
And pre-teen Children/yard apes should be charged double!
And dogs should be not there, no excuses, no exceptions.

I went to the Downey Frisco's Wednesday night cruise last week (8/8/07) for the first time in about a year I guess. It was still a dollar to get in with a "complimentary" driver's raffle ticket.
While eating with friends some guy handed me a flier for a parking lot show that said entry $25 before 8/4/07 $30 after that...
I told him "That $30 will buy me half a week's groceries!" and handed it back to him.
There's no sense in taking these things and just not going because of the price without telling the people WHY you won't be there.
They' are all getting TOO FUCKING EXPENSIVE for the return(?)
Why pay $30 to see all the same cars I can probably see for a dollar at Frisco's on Wednesday or free at Donut Derelicts or the anti-DD if I want to get up early enough on Saturday morning?
I don't care what anyone says it "cost's" to put on a "Show".
Been there, done that, it only costs as much as you decide to spend on it.
Hiring six rockerbilly garage bands to play one set each is just silly...for instance.

It was a good show. 10.00 was not too much. We came early, saw some cars, left and hit up some garage sales and thrift stores. Came back later in the evening to watch a couple of the bands. At the end of the day it was well worth the 10.00.

The only place I saw this show advertised was here and the $10 fee was something I didn't see. The other people I let know about the Show probably were not aware of it either. I was against $30 (all on me), for the 3 of us for an hour at the most. Next year I will put something in the show, get a T-shirt and a 2nd pass for $20. It looked like a nice event even at 2 PM and almost 100 degrees.

It's not easy to put on a show and definately not one that has bands that have to be paid. I'm sure the Ratty Bastards will take your advice and make the next one better. Thanks for inviting me out guys.

I wish I could have made it. I was too busy chasing parts for a not so HAMB worthy car. Looks like it was a good time.

Isn't charging the car owners entry fees somewhat akin to charging the Rolling Stones to play at a concert?

  11. Well I had a good time. I thought things were well organized with lot's of options. I must admit whimping out and hanging out in the ac bowling alley with some HAMB guys a fair amount of the time. The Ratty Bastards done good.

I bailed out before the party really got rolling due to the three and a half hour drive home. The hemi with the blower made 17.5 mpg on the way home to boot!

A big thank you to Ross Automotive for the pick and the trophy! Trophies as a rule don't mean much to me but this one does. Thanks!!!

It was hot! Ohhhhhhhhhhh so hot. :D
It was cool to see the cars. Root is the only person I ever met, and I didnt wear a Hamb Shirt or go out of my way to chit chat..... did I memtion it was hot? I didnt stay long, having the family with me and all.

I too was not expecting the $10 fee and was hesitant to go in, but I did anyway. That Purple Merc in the parking lot outside was by far the best car there! Beautiful! I think it was worth it though. I was not unhappy by any means.

I got there about 3pm or so. I was the non-greaser looking blonde guy with the 8 year old Daughter and Hawaiian Wife.

Anyone know what car won the best pick ticket thingy award?

I'll give the ratty bastards a hand. I thought this was a great event. I overheard someone on the PA saing that they were "told" by the host site when they could have the event, and next time around should be allowed more say-so as to scheduling(?). I think this will make all the difference. Still a great time even with the heat!!

I would love to have been there. But we spent nine hours in that same heat trying to get ready for Mokan. It is Oklahoma, it is summer, it is August, it is something we deal with, and it is no big deal. At least at this kind of show you can look at cars without having to look at a hundred camaros (and the like) before you see something worth looking at.

We tried, It seemed that once the sun went down the place was packed! I too sat at the back gate all day so didn't get to see much of the show but hey We are trying something new and I think in all it was a good turn out. I am not making excuses for anything the people that showed up and said "$10 for entry to a car show?" after I showed them the set list and told them why they didn't care at that point. We have some plans to make this thing bigger and better and to boot no one got into any problems at all... Ok well I got a sun burn on my head but that's ok.

I figured there would be tons of pics on here by now.

  17. I thought it was well worth the 10 spot and the drive from D/FW.
I knew this was the 1st annual "Okie Twist-off" and not Ratty Bastards party at the shop. I think they did a great job despite the Heat.
Those that bitch have never put on an event, or know how much goes into it.
Ive paid more than $10 just to see "Flametrick Subs".
I don't know how they did it on only $10. They certainly didn't make much, if any.

I guess now y'all are gonna bitch about having to pay to get in the HAMB Drags and how many of you tight wads paid to get in the Kontinentals Party we call Round-up. (I gladly did, and will have my hard earned cash ready at Mo-Kan)

Thanks to the Ratty Bastards and the Twist-off sponsors, good job for a 1st year show.

I got some Pics of mikey singing Tripod man. Great show,Great bands,Very good time. 20 bucks for me and my wife and little girl is cheap to see all those bands and cars. Being able to leave and come back is the only thing that saved us from the heat. It was hot. Had a great time. Dave

  19. Hey GV, did you talk to the guy with the Enfield? It was brand spanking new right out of the crate.

  20. EXACTLY!!! Tis is the point I was trying to get across to so many people.

  21. Man, if that sumbitch was brand new out of the box, he needs to get it looked at. It was smoking worse than an old french whore.

  22. That was his story. Went on and on about it being the bone stock military model. Maybe he needs me to break it in and seat the rings. ;-)

Didn't get to visit with him. I'm a sucker for vintage bikes.

It was great visiting with you Kerry, nice to put a face with a name. I may have to talk you into giving me a ride in the coupe at MOKAN.

See ya in a couple weeks.

The 52 I stiped got "Hard Luck" award

All of the trophies were made out of old car parts and pinstriped, very tasty.

I was gonna make it out, but it was on the same day as summers last blast. So I spent the 2 days there.

  28. RBCC members and followers, I owe an apology for leaving the "gathering" as we were on our shakedown run on the 47 Chevy that day. The gathering from my perspective? Excellent! Drink a beer and cheer! Excellent first show and quite welcome to my taste! Great bands, good peoples, great kulture kustom cars!! Looking forward to making this a tradition! See ya at the drags..........next week!
