SBC in a 64 Falcon

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tinbender, Aug 11, 2007.

  1. I know some of you out there won't like this idea, but I really don't care:D After drag racing my late model car I'm hooked! I took my 72 yr old dad out last weekend and we had a blast. Ran a best of 12.75 @ 111mph. I felt like maybe it wasn't the best way to treat my summer daily, so I took inventory and have nearly everything I need to put my 64 falcon on the track. I'm at least 2 years away from building it like I want to, so I might as well enjoy a season or two on the track first. Dad says If I build it he'll drive it so I've got to put it together. I know it's been done, just wondered if anyone here has put a SBC in one of these little fords, and what problems if any you ran into.

I have no problem with it. ;) The oil pan clearance and shock towers are your biggest problems. But if you do it like you should and put a good front end under it, these problems go away. If you're going to build power into this, I'd strongly suggest trashing everything ahead of the firewall as far as the chassis goes and do it right. You'll also want to run rails to the rear and put in a six point roll bar minimum to tie everything together.

although i dont approve eric its good to see your getting some use out of the old falcon i dont really see any problems you could run into other then headers there is no cross members up front so thats not a problem and im sure you can fab some motor mounts for it but headers might be a problem i have seen a 65 mustang with a sbc in it andi dont think they had to many problems

  4. Hey Jeff how you been? I'm thinking the shock towers will be the biggest issue. I don't want to change the front suspension at this time, I'm just wanting to get it on the track as cheap and simply as possible (unless I stumble across a straight axle!;) ) The motor I have for it isn't all that powerful, but I will connect the sub frames and put in at least a 4 point cage. I still plan to rear motor the car some day, and everything will be changed at that time. Right now I just want to race, and I feel like It's just wrong to treat the Vette so hard. BTW Dan ran the school car last weekend. He took second place in top comp. Ran a 9.25. Unfortunatly it was on a 9.27 dial in.

  7. I'm teaching a summer class for the next week and a half. Drop by. You have any 8" parts? I need backing plates and drums and a short side axle.

A little cutting on the shock towers and a nova oil pan, oil pump, and pickup sgreen. A little work on the firewall and go racing. But if you go to fast a cage and frame connector will be nice..

Would an early Chevy II oil pan work for this swap maybe? They have the same style of front suspension and steering as the Falcon ...

    cheers

What's easier, hack the car up or build the types of engine that fits in there well? Just asking.
