I did a search and couldn't sort through all of the misc. engine swapping banter. building the 55 merc, want to keep the original 292 y block, but would like to put something better than the original 2 speed trans. does anybody make an adapter to put a C4 or 700R4 up against that ford motor? any help would be really appreciated. thankyou sean
wilcap (google them, not sure what thier site is) has an AOD kit, they were working on a 700R4 kit, not sure how far they got with it tho. check them out.
found them wilcap.com . ph # 805 481 7639. they have a complete kit to go to a chevy trans, with an altered mopar starter for roughly $650.
http://www.transmissionadapters.com/ford_y_block.htm, check these guys out... have been researching this for the 292 in my fairlane.
There are also two other companies that make AOD adapters...Bristol Services & Hollywood Automotive. In addition, Flat-O Products makes a C4 kit that is more of a direct bolt-in, for both cars & trucks: http://www.flat-o.com/carproducts/yblock.htm The Hollywood, Wilcap, Bristol Services, & Bendtsen kits are all adapters- nothing more, nothing less, so you will need to expect some fabrication, driveshaft mods, & so forth.
