Wow......great pics. Looks like it was one great day at the track. Sure like those '55's! Thanks for posting. Duckus****us
I am partial to Willys' and Anglias (my pops had one), but that Oddy Austin is bad ***!!! Mazmanian had a killer Austin too... Where's the Malco G***er Mustang???
I've always thought of G***er as a style, usually with a lifted front solid axle with leafs and some big meats in the back. Maybe someone else can help us out with the true meaning of the word.
Great pics, the Bad*** 34 is a fellow club members car, he ran a 8.00 The t is 1BB41's and next to the primered chevy is my 36
McKee - that's the "Turbonique Drag Axle" on the Pegasus (Cougar?). Pegasus, from what I recall, was a 1965/1966 Mustang Fastback. There were a few other cars that ran this axle, can't recall the names. I have some neat photo's somewhere. That's a real find - were they looking for pics?
No - g***ers aren't just a "style" - I believe the style is born out of necessity - big meats to handle the sheer horsepower of these awesome cars. G***ers have their history in the 50's, essentially a rodded street car. By the '60s, this evolved into Supercharged (AA/G - CC/G) and Non-supercharged cl***es (A/Gas - H/Gas), with the hairiest being the AA/G. These were essentially AF/X cars or early funny cars running gas rather than nitro, but making ****loads of horsepower. See Byron's G***er Madness for more - http://g***ermadness.com
I remember! It was the Ozark Mule - that's the other Turbonique Drag Axle car I remember, pic below (do a Google on Turbonique, you'll find a hilarious blog that has at least one entry on the company).
there was a Turbonique on ebay recently. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Hot-...egoryZ107063QQihZ018QQitemZ280110873451QQrdZ1
Yes they were...and I believe I have the contact info on my pictures(I need to download my camera yet......)
That eBay thing is interesting, but there were definitely more than 3 made. Minimally, there was the Bug, the Pegasus, the Ozark Mule, the Dr. Guest's Plymouth, the go-kart, etc. but I guess his point is only 3 are known to exist, at least his knowledge. To be fair, the piece looked brand spanking new...worth something at least from a nostalgic POV.
the very first pict with the "copperish" willys "the pilgrim" is my old boss gene oconnor he owns genes garage in east bridgewater ma he also have a 41 willys pickup with hillborn running 11's hell of a guy
Nice group of photos you took and I was pleasantly surprised to see you took one of mine. There was just so much stuff to see there, tons of race cars and just plain cool cars.
here's a link to the track photographer's web page for all the cars coming off the line http://www.dankollander.exposuremanager.com/g/sunday_niagara_weekend_2007
The blue/white 55 went thru town on his way home.My son seen it and come and got me,we had a chat with the owner for awhile. He was towing it with a '70s elcamino. He said hes had this since the 70s and just did the g***er thing 3 years ago. Also owns a Willys.
I cuold imagine that this one probably got most of you guys wondering. Well I can tell you it's an early Ford Taunus from Germany. Probably a 1948 Cool like a shrunk 40 Ford! Love it
Damn, and I went to the mopar nationals and got a ticket instead of going here....never said I was smart. Looks like a great time, looks like I will have to bail on my muscle car buddies again! Don
