Whew...it was a long ride and I had a blow out on the trailer but I am home with the truck. Here are some pics.
Me taking the spare off my truck and putting it on the trailer. I actually had to flip it around and run it backwards so it would not rub. Maybe not the safest but I made it home nice and slow.

The sunset is really orange from all the smoke in the sky from california being on fire. It looks like it is snowing outside from the ash.

I am not sure what this rearend is...does anybody know (I am thinking it is a 9" with re-drilled drums to match the camaro front clip bolt pattern)?

I am happy to be home with the truck. I have to unload it in the morning and then go get a new tire for the borrowed trailer. When my friend dropped off the trailer when he heard I was going to long beach he was like oh...I do not know if the tires will make it as they are pretty tore up.

I would like to thank everyone who helped load it up too. My friend that was supposed to go was a no show and my wife who went with me for company was busy studying for a state board test next week.

the weight distribution doesn't look right, It shouldn't push down the back of your pick up like that, or the hitch is in the wrong position. That's probably what made the tire blow overheating..... I talk from lots and lots of experience...

I agree with battersea boys..I haul all sorts of heavy **** on my 18' dual axle trailer..with my z71 and it dont look like that goin down the road..you have the load too far forward on that trailer. too much tongue weight..and those tires on that trailer ****! they do not look like trailer tires..there is a difference!

yeah the tires on that trailer are shot and I do not think they are trailer tires.

I noticed it was making my truck squat. I should have had it back about a foot and a half to the rear (live and learn). My truck squats a little bit to the rear anyway but not as much as seen in these pics.

I am also thinking I should probably had a hitch with a slight drop in it too since my truck is not stock height.

  10. You can also put the car on facing rearward so the engine weight is over the trailer axle(s). Oh, by the way, your new girlyfriend is kind of cute.

Nice scenery in the background of that tire-changin' pic!

Forgive my ignorance, but what causes the big gap between the cab and the bottom of the front fenders on old pickups? Is it rusty cab mounts that let the front of the cab sink? I see old trucks like that all the time.

Nice girlfriend, I bet she takes less money than the breathing kind to make you happy....

On the trailer thing, A friend pointed out to me once this little tidbit.
If the thing you are hauling on the trailer is only worth the cost of used or automotive tires, then it's no big deal. But why would you stick cheap tires on a trailer that is hauling something of great value to you? I buy car trailer tires now, and change them out every so often. I don't wait for weather checking.

I'll agree with everyone that it was loaded too far forward - Here's a quick way to set tongue weight if you don't know how heavy the load is... measure the tounge with the trailer attached - then have 2-3 friends stand on the tongue to get ~400 or so extra on the tongue - take the difference then when loading the car measure the tounge and go for a little lower than that height - should get you close enough on a sub 4000 lb car... (i.e. 10%)

The front body clip is just sitting on there. The inner fenders need to be trimmed more so that the front body clip can sit properly on the camaro clip.

no. shortbed. the space in front of the rear fenders is larger on the longbed.

I believe they're called "Hotchkiss" rearends when the gear set & entire center pumpkin can be unbolted and removed from the front side of the housing. My '55 Chevy's rearend looked the same (as mentioned in another response), as do 9" Ford rearends.

After '64, Chevy went to the 10- and 12-bolt rearends, which had removable inspection covers on the back side.

Good looking girlfriend. She looks like a keeper. ;)

Find my Camaro clip post- it shows you how to get the sheetmeytal attached the easy way.

Killer truck! I love those things...

and before you ask, a camaro (second gen) rear end is the right width to work with- the hotchkiss rear ends are not known for thier strenght- but they both have the same bolt pattern. 5 on 4-3/4

and flipping the axle over the leaf is "easy cheesy".

wish I had read this before I went under the truck. Next time I am out in the garage I will look.

I got the front body clip off (just had to lift it off), the hood off, and the bed off today...all of which was easier then getting it off the trailer and in the garage by myself. hahaha.

don't haul one loaded backwards! that puts the load on the tail and really causes the trailer to become unstable causing it to whip back and forth. if their is no engine and trans you can haul either direction.

Well The front body clip, hood, and bed are off the truck. I took a putty knife, wire brush, de-greaser, pressure washer to the front and rear frame and then gave her a bath in ospho. I will let that dry over night then wire brush it again and hit it with some primer to seal her up. I will do the same to the cab area when I get it off.
I was told the camaro clip I have is from a 75. I wish there was a way to tell for sure. But if it does not matter then I do not care. I am going to put in the leaf springs that I have fixed up with new bushings and stripped down to four leafs (were 8) and put the ford 8.8 rear in the truck hopefully on friday. I am putting the rear ontop of the leafs and will notch the frame with some pipe.
Here are some pics from tonight. Sorry they are not the best but it was dark.

I had a pretty good day after work. I wire brushed the frame again then hit it with some primer. I am sure I will be wire wheeling some of it off for welding/cutting/boxing but oh well. I like having it primered instead of in bare metal. looks cleaner too.
I took the old rear end out and started putting in my other leafs that have the new bushings in them. I also have the new rear end sitting underneath there and hopefully my new plate/shock mount thingies will be in on friday so I can snug it all together.
Here are a few pics. There are 16 new ones in the folder. A link is available in my sig.

hehe...twins. My wife is the one that loves to call my hot rod projects my other girlfriends. I will have to tell her I have twins hidden out back. She will get a kick out of that.
