Has there been any updates on this from the authorities that matter?

Put the car on (Victorian) SR plates just Fri last. No updates available, Con won't/can't tell. There's politics in this - gunna have to be patient.

  4. Why do we call it ***** when it tastes like fish?

  5. whats stopping you registering a car as a stock/restored car on full reg then changing to a repo ch***is afterwards, its done in the streetmachine scene, adding blowers, tubs etc after getting rego

  6. Try having a large accident involving injuries and deaths in a totally unlegal car, and you might see the problem. Or even the fact that it will be uninsurable, or you won't see a cent if you have lied to the insurance company.

It's what CAN go wrong more than just 'doing it'.

Full reg seemed like less h***le, but its pretty expensive and stamp duty's a killer.

Had a few expenses lately and got nuthin in my pockets except fingers so seemed llike the better option.

  8. Chebby you're on the road, now time to clock up some miles sorting, full reg can always come later when funds permit.

There are young 17 year old guys doing things with mini trucks and airbags here that I don't even want to know about*,. Of course none of this is being engineered. What insurance? Bravado is great but when the **** hits the fan, naturally it will impact on all of us.

    * including teaching themselves to stick weld by doing 18" C notches for diff clearance and relocating fuel tanks.

So many comments to add, so little time

Why do we have SR reg in the first place? how did it come about?

I know this is political, and i also know adding opinions in the forum often does not go down well with the "in" crowd.

    S.R. plates ****
i want to drive my chev when i want too not when they want me too,

  13. Well go full reg then, easy! SR serves a good purpose similar to CH or H, especially if you own more than one car. If the log book comes in, owning 5 cars will work out cheaper than rego on one and give you more than a years worth of driving...

But both my cars are on full rego. I don't plan on having a fleet....

Digging up an old thread. Anyone else get stuff from Vicroads talking about the logbook and 90 days unrestricted use per year for SR plates? Talks also about a new inspection scheme.

    Whats the skinny?

  15. The new 90 day Permit system for those who choose to use it will commence from Feb 2011.

What I plan to do, is first research all the limitations for full street rego, for example original frame/crossmember and original steel body, (no repro), max allowed engine capacity versus original weight, and so on.

***emble a partial ch***is mock up, tack welds only, duct tape, maybe wood and string holding it all precariously in place, just something to show intent, and how the whole mess might eventually all fit together.

Then contact Con and at least a couple of different engineers, and discuss materials selection, rules and limitations, ways and means.

This at least gives an engineer something to look at and comment on, without committing yourself to far in the metal.

I would personally prefer full registration.
But a permit offers a lower cost and simpler way to get onto the street for many of us.

The high number of rods with club rego should tell you this alternative is a very valuable one to have.

    Re Bisitechniks of Ballarat
Has any one dealt with them, i have a wolseley 680 x police car i am thinking of getting the roof cut out to make a convertible i have emailed them a few times i found them rude when i told them what i wanted to do, they also told me it will cost starting at $3000 for engineers report the thing is i tried to tell them my car has a full ch***is under it it will never flex, as we cut the roof out of one 6 years a go drove it around the paddock like a hot rod for years and never had one problem with it, never flexed one bit. does any one know of some one who could cut the roof off for me, also a place to get an engineers report who wont over charge like
Bisitechniks of Ballarat. problem is there the only ones in Ballarat they can charge what they want.
