I know I must be a masochist, but I will post this anyway expecting some nut to go postal. I have a late 1930 Model A closed cab pickup. Does anyone make a passenger side door latch mechanism with an inside lock like the driver's side? If not, has anyone done this modification that could tell me how to do it? Thanks.
I have in the past swapped the locking handle to the drivers door, and the inside lock to the passengers door. Did this on two A's, one that I still have. Been long enough that I don't remember details, but remember that it wasn't any big deal. I know that this isn't what you asked, but I believe that you could put the interior lock*****on on both doors. HOWEVER, if both doors are locked from the inside, and you shut both doors, you ain't gonna get in, key or no key! Herb in Delco
You might consider looking for the tech thread on installing bearclaw latches in a Model A. If you ever get in a wreck there's not much holding those doors shut. If you locked yourself out, a flat piece of tin with an angle on one end and bent in two 90' bends could probably slip into the jam and push the latch in, unless when locked you cannot physically push it into the door.
I think you are right about getting locked out. The driver's side has done that before. The last side window I bought (safety glass) was $145 sanded and beveled. Think I better just leave well enough alone. I have a locking handle on that side. Thanks for the wisdom. Larry
the inside lock is a SLIDE. There is NO way you can lock both doors from the inside if the windows are rolled up and no one is inside
Seemed to me that he wanted to put another SLIDE on the door with the outside locking handle. If the SLIDE is pushed to the lock position the door can be closed from the outside and will lock. If both SLIDES were slid to the locking position, and the doors were shut from the outside, the lock in the outside handle would NOT open the door. Herb in Delco
