Air conditioning in an open hood high boy

  1. My next coupe I build for myself will hopefully be blown and a/c'd. I don't give a half a shit about looking cool sitting in a parking lot, my goal is to drive the bitch. If it is 90 degrees+, I can just about guarantee whatever I am driving has a/c. I spent too many years dealing with not having it.

It never ceases to amaze me how rude some people can be. Just because you like your shit traditional, doesn't mean you can't be comfortable while lookin cool.Put the compressor down low like it's been suggested earlier in this thread, Oh andF*ck what the guys like tikinailhead has to say. Let those guys be miserable in their car and out!!!!

if you spend the time you can make it look good. mount compressor down low. run the high pressure line threw the frame ( condensor to evaporator ) make or use old ac vents.

  5. My 18th birthday was the coldest on record in Chicago; 26 BELOW zero. My mind didn't keep me warm then and it sure as hell isn't gonna keep me cold when it's 95+ humidity. I gave up on that swami stuff a long time ago. :D

I just got back from the gym in Monrovia, SoCal at 1PM. Its 100 degress and pretty humid (for us) today....and I feel like a million bucks, because the A/C in the '34 works bitchin.
I didn't bust my ass working for 35 years and work on hot rods for 45 years just to sweat like a convict in a Chinese work camp.
And....I didn't invest a lot of work and money in a rod to leave it in the garage on a hot day.
I might croak tomarrow. I'm driving the '34 today and any day I chose.

No, NumbNuts, its not a Street Beast.
And its not a freekin pickup truck!
Its a 1965 period correct rod that has been featured in magazines that go way back.

I didn't call you any names, and the HAMB hasn't been around for 45 years.

You can use your fancy-ass garage all you want, but just give me some dirt.

I have also been kicking this idea around. Closed car plus Las Vegas summer heat equals plastic seat sweat, to the nth degree. I will cross this bridge when the time comes. If I want my wife to ride in the car wth me any time other than December thur March, the answer is yes.

I am running a re-built big block Olds 455. I will try to figue out how we can get a pully system to hide the compressor down by the frame rails. I may do it becuase it is the only thing my wife has asked me to do. She has been bitching over the car since I started. So air conditioning may be the one thing that gets her off my ass.

Traditionalist and "old schoolers", please forgive me.
Sometimes you have to do things you don't want to.

    I will keep you posted

now when you put it that i know what you mean. If your lady is bitchin then you gotta do what you gotta do. Honestly though i bet she would be supprised how a car like that isn't that hot inside in buffalo new york during the summer. My sister lived in syracuse and she didn't have ac in her house or her car and she was from georgia.
love your signature by the way!

just finished a model A sedan earlier this year ,
coated all the bottom of the floors before I welded every thing in with lizzard skin. neat stuff,
then sprayed the inside every where I could , extra thick in the roof and floors that car dose not need ac in Texas.

I may be way off here, but wasn't there a mercury or something in the mid 50's that had an a/c contraption in the trunk with tubes running up the headliner?
