I saw this 1/25 scale custom model car on the Model Cars message board and it remined me about this real Barn Find Studebaker Custom.... and made me wonder whatever happend to it.
Did it get sold on ebay or elsewhere... is it going to be restored... does anybody know?

    The model by Mr Moto

  3. Which on this board doesn't seem to be jack shit, surprising from a board that's supposed to be about traditional cars. I like the car, but I think to bring anywhere close to a real price on it you'd want to paint it one color again, at least get a junk motor and trans to set in it to bring the front end down and lower the back if needed. Then include a couple copies of that issue of Car Craft. I mean Christ, if it's as solid as was said that alone makes it worth more than $1000 even if I took the frame, cut all the floors out, and scrapped the rest. I can't even buy a rotty shitty stocker parts car for $500, unless I get lucky at the scrapyard. That one wouldn't be all that hard to get finished and be driving it. The only major headache I see is getting glass in it.

So what did happen with this car? eBay?

The 15 yrs it sat in my buddys shop i never thought it would have history like this. He would have sold it to me for little of nothing but i wasn't that attached to it. It would be good if someone finished it again.

The headlights mite be '59 Chevy...but without the bezels it's hard to tell...IMHO the grille needs to be widened and a pair of Caddy Dagmars placed at each corner...a tube/bar grille would fit the era...the taillights are early Lincoln ('53/'54) and I'd leave 'em alone, but the rear "grille" area would need to be filled...and a license plate type rolled pan/bumper combo would have to go in...and the fins...well...the fins would need a bit of help...

The rear window looks plexi-glass kinda to me...NOT Camaro...

I'd build it...after all, it IS a Studebaker...

Definitely NOT my personal taste, but it is indicative of a certain time period and geographic location.

To the "hey, you have to like it if you like traditional cars" guys... Just because it was built a long time ago doesn't mean it's cool or should be emulated. Ugly cars have been built all through hot rodding's history. We should learn from what "worked" not just what was done.

    Funny thread.

I think it could be a cool car with a little (OK, a lot) of work. It's got that low sloping nose that made the Daimler Dart so ugly the way it is now. And, while they are period the quad headlights don't look good. Rear fender "pontoons" look like they are off a car two sizes bigger and the bottom edge of the front windsheild is about 2" too high to line up with the rest of the windows.

Weird custom but it's cool to see something old like that found intact and Rikster amazes me the way he indentifies these things like that.

I am with Kirk on this one...we all have various opinions on this particular car, but the bigger point in that even if you assume it is Fugly, it does represent a certain era of our sport which is Kool.

However, as we all know we have all seen some frightening NIGHTMARES built today and in the last few years that, and if we found them in a barn 20 years from now, we would high tail our asses away.

I am a Jones like everyone else....I am looking for MY barn find and find ALL barn finds really interesting. But, not all are worth the effort in bringing them "back."

GAWD! That thing needs to be finished. A little finetuning in the rear window department(I guess they forgot the cut the steel to fit the glass rule).

Don't recognize the car, but it may have some history. Many have been cut up pitched when the new owner doesn't know where it cam from. Maybe some research with the custom gurus.

the old shots that rik posted look way better than the car looks now. Some good wheels and tires , and lowered back down and this would be a nice piece of history to see restored.

I think its tits, its just too bad its not a merc, shoebox, or tri five chevy like every other asshole on heres got.

  22. not me, its still ugly, I wouldnt put a dime into it, but that doesnt mean its not gold to someone else.
I bought a barn find old moto guzzi. it was awesome, but not for me, I put it into the hands of a guzzi purist who really appreciated the old V-7 for what it was worth. That find to him was the finish to 10 years or more of searching for a father/son v-7 project. To me, it was just another barn find, one of many for me.
end result, it got saved for somebody to love again.

I'm not sure if this Studebaker is still owned by a Hamber.... but today I found another photo of this car when it was finished and at a 1960 Show... and apperently it did very good at the show looking at the prizes next to it.

The photo comes from the The Dick FUZZY Fuerholzer collection... on my site.

It's Cool for the fact that it is different, but if it is solid I would go for it on a low cost build for fun, heck it is going to be the one and only one like it with a great story behind it . I like it ! I say if don't have a project and are looking for one do it doesn't matter what anyone eles thinks if you like it do it !

I think if it were really low it would have a great look. The fins are rad, the headlights are cool, it's a unique car that if done right could be a real head turner. Now, only the mavericks in this world truly set the standard. All of our hot rod icons of the days of yore were renegades, we soon forget this fact. Dare I say it, but most people on this fourm are not interested in standing out in a crowd, they like what everyone else likes. We are mostly cows of a smaller and perhaps greaserer (sp?) herd. I'm making a generalization of course but it's the truth. There I said it...

What is it worth? The eternal question with all things old. The Answer: It's worth what someone else is willing to pay. It will take some $$$ to make it a runner but you should do it just to prove the fashion police wrong.

That's a keen eye, the pic is reversed but if you flip it the display appears to be for two cars with the other being "the Persian"..

I dont think they're at the same place, I just noticed the car... they must have used that fencing at all the displays. I think there's an overhead shot of that outdoor show where the roadster is, and there isn't a brick wall anywhere around there...

    Man, I like that studebaker.
