I had to post this after the thread from about a month ago about old cars inside a sunken train. Today on the discovery channel I watched an episode about a sunken ferry boat on lake Michigan that was caught in a storm in 1929 called the Milwaukee that was carrying railroad boxcars full of cargo, when they dove down to investigate why the ship sank they also showed some of its cargo, it was carrying bathtubs in one boxcar and in the other boxcar it was carrying a bunch of brand new Nash automobile's I thought it was pretty cool and I am glad they were only Nash's instead of 32 ford's.

It would have been hard to sink 1932 fords... in 1929.

Can't fit too many autos in a box car. I heard that was the reason for sealed batteries so that car could be stacked vertically in box cars.

  8. The Milwaukee itself is well do***ented but I've never seen any evidence of any automobile cargo. As you can see things don't deteriorate too quickly in Lake Michigan.

If you watch the show they show the boxcar with the Nash's in there and the even mention the cars that "were new when sank".

  10. Okay. I'll have to check it out. All I've seen are stills.

the sealed battery was created by GM so it could stand Vegas on end inside of special box cars made just for shipping cars.the cars were strapped onto a rack that then was raised so the vega stood on it's nose.then the next one was driven in and it repeated to the other end of the RR car. They could ship a lot more cars than in a conventional boxcar and the cars were protected from debris thrown from overhead roads.I have pics in one of my books showing this quite clearly and a write up about it

    .....NEWS FLASH.....

In a related story,..... the promoters of "TULSARAMA" were upset and disheartened over the recent report of these 1929 Nash Automobiles being in better condition than there beloved 1957 Plymouth,... The Chairman for the Tulsarama extravaganza said "This is absolutely preposterous !,... they weren't even in a big space age protective plastic bag !",...... they vowed to have Boyd Coddington look into the matter.

have any pictures that show the condition of the Nash's? Im interested in seeing how they'd look after all these years in a lake.

anybody up for a little scuba diving trip? :D That said, 90-120 ft 6 miles from shore would mean a lot of folks have been down there, treasure hunting, etc.
