i am cosidering making my own intake and was wondering about the heat cycles of the engine fatigueing and cracking near the valley. the engine is the 2002 vortec8100,no aftermarket intakes are made for ths engine.sheet metal and carbon fiber units cost to much and without one, the engine is useless with those heads [cathedrial style like the ls based engines],gm performance has all but said never instead pushing the 502 or 572, in true hotrooding fashion i need to make my own. thanks for any help guys cm my question is about the strength of Alumaloy and whos used it to what results.i am capable of figuring out the size and length of the runner and plenum so please no dart throwing as to how hard it might be. www.samracing.com "was a student"
good point i was mainlly concerned with the fatigue. i have looked at a couple places but nothing deffinitve no one seems to knock or praise it, i understand that it never sold as well as it was supposed ,probablly cause the industry that would allready have tig, i dont just a mig any way im waiting to here from someone who can say that it is **** or gold i think i know which way it will fall but you never know right thanx, cm
I haven't used it a lot but it has so far performed as they advertise it will.I bought some at a swap meet and have done a few jobs with it I'm satisfied that it would work fine to weld up an intake or exhaust header.I use my oxy/acet torch but it does work with a good Bernzomatic torch
I Tried It And It ****s.it Was 30 Bucks A Pound What A Waste Of Money It Was.i Tried It With Mapp Gas And Oxy Acetalyne Neither Worked Well At All.all I Was Doing Was Trying To Fill A Couple Holes In Some Cast Aluminum, all I Got Was Clumpy Balls Of **** That Didnt Stick.i Tried Many Different Ways And Different Heat Ranges Nothing Worked!!!just When I Thought I Had It After It Cooled I Tried To Grind It Flush And It Just Came Off.definitly A Waste Of Time And Money!!!!!
thanks guys as i was when i started the thread i now am as undecided as before. it seems people either have good luck with it or bad. either way thanks. LEON, did the things you used it on receive any harmonics, heat, how do you think it would hold up under stress, so far you are the only person that has used it (or will admit to it ) with any success. MEDDLER1 sorry to hear it was a waste of time and money, i ***umed there was some like you that hadn't had great luck with it thanks for input, i am still skeptical of this product thanx, CM
