I need some help from all you So Cal guys, I want to take my dad on vacation to L.A. and want to make the most of my trip. I need to plan a 5 day (or so) trip to see a bunch of the cool **** you guys got there. He and I are more likely to appreciate the lesser know and off the beaten path places but would love to see the Peterson Museum and Barris's place. Any advice?
Since jet lag will have you awake early, be sure to hit the DoNut Delelicts and the come have breakfast with the Anti Donut crew Saturday mornings in Huntington Beach. Check Dave Lindsey's site too. www.socalcarculture.com What to see depends on when you are here.
I havn't been in a few years but if your just visiting, Bob's Big Boy on friday nights may be worth it.
What to see depends on when you are here.[/quote] I would imagine that would be true, is there a better time when more is going on? I want to do this for my dad before he gets too old to do stuff like this. He is only 60 but a very old 60 and I don't see too many opportunities to do things like this. My mom p***ed 3 years ago and he and I have grown alot closer. This is a great idea, thanks
peterson is cool bobs in touluca lake dont know when your planning your trip but la roadster show is fathers day and really big.I used to go with my dad every year before he p***ed in 05. also check out to see if pomona swap meet is the same weekend of your trip, its diffently worth seeing.
You know I was originally going to plan the trip around Pomona. Maybe that should be my starting point.
The Calif Hot Rod Reunion is the best car thing that I know of. If I were planning that trip, that'd be the center piece. Oct 12-14 this year. At historic Famoso raceway in Bakersfield.
The weather is real nice then. But the car party is the best draw. If your pop is a drag fan, ya can't go wrong. Last year they push started something like 80(!) historic racecars. All at once and had them reving and popping in the middle of the track. If ya make it there, bring your dad out the Viper's Pit. At 60, he'd just be a pup in our group.
Yep, the CHRR is tough to beat and the Bakersfield weather will be alot nicer by then. You can walk around and see all kinds of cool stuff and a ton of old time Hot Rod heroes. Be sure to have Groucho rub some sun tan lotion on your nose.
This was sounding like the ticket but that is the weekend of the Hunnert Car Pileup, we haven't missed one yet and I doubt we will have by then.
here's the link to pomona swap. http://www.pomonaswapmeet.com/general.htm its always on a sunday, so you could do Bob's on a friday and petersen on saturday, then pomona on sunday morning and the rest of the week to explore.
Bob's big boy in Toluca Lake is a great experience you can chill there all night (friday) I was real fortunate, a was dating a girl who lived a block from there and she flew me out a few times during those long michigan winters... good times.
