Well, it's not exactly what I had pictured in my head but it will do. Knocked out the second framerail this morning, then tied them together in the rear, figured out the pinch, and got the front crossmember in. Still needs a lot of tweaking, may need a bit more kickup at the cowl, and a little more taper in the rails. I'm thinking (hoping) a motor and transmission will really get the front end down some more. Gotta do something about the rear of the framerail. Everything is just tacked for now. All final welding will be TIG'ed. I don't have any of the rear kickup done, but I need to get some correctly sized mockup wheels and tires before I can get it done right. I finally got a pair of sedan doors in pretty nice shape, sp I've started hacking those up too. I've just got the ****py coupe skins on there for looks. I'm not 100% satisfied with this, but some minor tweaking here and there will get it right. Sorry for the blurry pictures. My camera is going downhill and it was hard to get a decent shot in the garage.
I like the tall rails. 2" x 4" rails are the ticket for a channeled ride. But they look spindly running under a body high boy style rod.
Looks pretty cool I think. You started with a truck body I'm ***uming? The frame has kind of a 32 look to it with the body set up highboy style.
Thanks guys. I went with 6" x 2" rails because I wanted a hiboy look. '32 rails are about 5" or 6" tall. I was worried it would look weird but it think it's alright...I might end up channeling it 1". I'm going to bring the exhaust through the rails (ala the Doane Spencer roadster) to break them up a bit. The cowl is sport coupe, the doors are sedan, and the rear piece is a roadster pick-up repo from Brookville.
You've got the proportions spot on there chap , like the high riding look . Only thing I'd say as constructive critisism is the rear of the frame rail looks a bit "heavy" to my eye . I realise things will change a bit when you get the rear kick in there , but have you thought of putting a taper in the bottom of the rail to balance with the front ? Looking forward to more updates ;-)
dammm fidge looks good kinda like the model you built, i guess the small scale was alot easier to do huh but looks good buddy, looking forward to updates. see ya on sundays model car post
Thanks guys. You're right about the rear rails looking thick, they are pretty tall. I'll have to work around that, with maybe a very slight channel, but like I said, it will have through the frame exhaust like the Doane Spencer roadster. Weld half of a torque tube to the side of the rail and poke the exhaust through the end. Getting the hood sides to work is going to be a lot of work. I'll probably end up just cutting the louvers out of these hood sides and using them in some handmade ones. I'll have to make a new top from scratch too. That will be a learning expreience... I hope to keep rolling on progress with this instead of messing with it once a month. Especially if I'm going to make Roundup '08 in it......
