at work, driving around in a 72 Ford wagon, with a 429 PI engine. Buzz pulled over & we just sat there....

Then it was off to burger king, for a cheeseburger, in his honor.

I was in Honolulu, drinking rum and chasing women. Always loved his "Blue Hawaii" album. SAD day.

  4. Was on vacation in Cornwall, in my folks friends car, driving across a small bridge, when it came on the radio. My Mum burst into tears, she was a big Elvis fan

In a drug induced stupor probably. Elvis is dead?! I just saw him yesterday!

...picking up my first skateboard and learning how to ride it, i was 12:)

back then to me, Knievel was the king, not Elvis ...king of the stunmen!

  7. I remember it pretty well; my mother even took us out of school that day! We went to NASA and saw the prototype models for a new program called "Space Shuttle".

  9. I was washing windows. Scoott and I would wash windows every summer, 75 cents per window. The house had 76 of them. It was one of the kitchen windows. i was standing on a porch wall, leaning over so I wouldn't have to manuever a ladder past a bush. I heard it on WYFE, Y95 from Rockford, IL. I was wearing an American Graffitti T-shirt and the first pair of checkerboard surf shoes I'd ever seen. Got 'em on Maxwell st. in Chicago earlier that summer.

This is the most truthful statement on the post!!lol
Elvis joined the ranks of "death boosting there careers" people! along with James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix & Janis Joplin!!
I hate to see how famous Liz Taylors going to be when she goes!!lol

I was having my 10th Birthday party. Yes, I'm the grand ol' age of 40 today. I've shared my B-day with this event ever since.

  12. Reading about the possibly gay Elvis and that previous, impersonators come from the broad ends of the spectrum too. A guy my friend knows that we sometimes get cars from is an Elvis impersonator. He and his brother live out in the sticks, they're nice guys but not terribly blessed for smarts, the few times I've been over there it's not hard to picture the theme from Deliverance rather than an Elvis song being played.

I guess what you can take from that is regardless of your own opinion of Elvis he did touch a lot of people's lives.

    ------------

As for me, I have no idea what I was doing; had Bugs Bunny died I might have been paying attention - I was three.

rock & roll lost some good people in 1977... wasn't too long after that that Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines died in the plane crash that took Lynyrd Skynyrd off the map for about 15 years. (some people would say permenently; there seems to be two schools of thought, one against the current incarnations of the band, one for it).

One of my Lab Technicians was inconsolable. Elvis was supposed to be in concert in our town the next day. I told her to hang on to her ticket. It would be very valuable one day.

Me and my family did a cross country road trip in our '76 Dodge van from So Cal to Saranac Lake, NY. I was 14 at the time and remember the news about Elvis - sad. I also remember the hunt for "Son of Sam".

Wonder what that road trip would cost with today's gas prices.

I wasn't born until October of 77, but the magnitude of Elvis' passing is very obvious to everyone here in Memphis this week. There are thousands of people standing out in the 105 degree heat to pay their respects. Beale Street will be crazy all week.

I was watching the news with mum&dad. Can still remember the look on the newsreaders face as he read the bulletin announcing Elvis had died. Not a great fan of Elvis(prefer Buddy Holly/Eddie Cochran),but hey,no denying the man was a star!

  24. I was 4 so I have no idea what I was doing and I don't remember hearing about it at the time although my Mom was a big fan so I probably did hear about it. I got into Elvis a few years later through an older cousin and have been a fan ever since. I swore up and down that I would never get married unless it was by Elvis in Vegas....
