came across a set of 5 wheels last night and wondering if you guys could help me identify them.
they are 17" 5x5 1/2 wheels about 3.25 inches wide. they are two piece wheels with the centers (that look like artillery wheels) that were chromed and outers that were painted. they have an open center for a cap that would have tangs on it (that I don't have)

the story with them was that they were "the first chrome aftermarket wheel available" and had a smooth center cap. they are definately very old and look like they were made in the early to mid 30's

They sound like the General Jumbo wheels but they were 14" of course.

chromed like that but I think these have a few more spokes. maybe 12 instead of the nine shown. and again, 17" and about 3.25-3.5 wide

I believe Jumbos and other "super-balloon" tires of the period were 15" rather than 14".

Jumbo's came in 14" and 16" at least, maybe more sizes, but that's the only two sizes I've found

    Jumbos came in 14" 15" & 16" for sure ..... personally know a guy that runs 15" & had 2 more sets.

The 17" wheels we speke of are prolly from "CLEVE~WELD" or one of the others like FIRESTONE, GENERAL, ETC...

I have 6 16" wheels that sound the same as ones stated, but the cap is held on but a 1/2 round ring spot welded to the center of the wheel.

Post a pic of them if ya can.... Easier for us to pin point manufacture

Are you sure you`re measuring them correctly? I see alot of people that just measure the overall diameter and width of a wheel to come up with it`s size which is incorrect. If tht`s what your doing,I`m thinking that there 16`s and not 17`s.

they are definitely 17's (17" at the bead) and narrower like a v8-60 wheel.

Interesting, I also have a chrome centered artillery wheel, but in a 16 x4 1/2 with the 5 1/2 bolt pattern, and slightly different from my others. Matter of fact, out of the 8 ford artillery rims I have, there are at least 3 different variations. I didn't know jumbos were available in 16" That may explain one of them, but there really isnt alot of info on artilleries that I can find.

Maybe somebody could come up with a guide for these wheels, like Bobby Green did on the milk truck wheels in TRJ?

The Jumbo's that I've seen are wide. You can tell how wide by this reversed one. The owner said his dad reversed it in the 60s before they got so pricey.

This is a regular one on the front.

I'm Rev's brother...i'm trying to get pics up of the rims.....they are 17" x 3 1/4" i'm thinking between '32-'34.....seeing as 34 wires are the same size......i dont think they'd be aftermarket rims after 34 because then they hade 16" rims that were wider too.

if you look at the spokes near the rim...you can see what is left of the original chrome......just a small bit

I know a guy that has some of those in that bolt pattern and some that look just like them in another pattern, so I'm thinking aftermarket.

i looked around the web just a bit and couldn't find much for info on old rims. maybe i wasn't looking in the right area. anyway, i could make any definate matches, many had 14 or so spokes, these have 12. they are cool and i'm sure i will have them as a set of wheels to run on my '31 S/W Sedan....if others can give any definates that would be great!!!!

thanks to all those who have already put in some effort!
