Hate to do it, but I have a new project in mind so it's time to go. I plan on putting the big FOR SALE sign after the drags at the KC Goodguys show in a few weeks. Has anyone ever sold at a large show or Nats? I've heard and seen stories about people offering cash on the spot or trading for another car ect. How does it really work? What should I do to protect myself? Do I carry the ***le with me and have a notary close, or sell it and send ***le after the check clears? Any one ever do this? Scares me thinking of getting burned. Anyone with similar experiance? Chris
I tend to not trust anyone. I will never let a vehicle or ***le go until I have the CASH ,not a check ,Green stamps, first born child ,nothing but cash. I tried to sell my modified last spring and found if I would take a partial trade It would have been easier. As it was I just kept the car and will now sell it ir drive ,either way. You will see some flakey people when you put that for sale sign on it. Best of luck.
My retired Pal sold his 34 in KC a couple years back. Lots of greenbacks, they went to a bank and signed the ***le. He trailored it so he just dropped off after following the gent home.
Cash can be counterfeit, especially 20's, 50's and 100's. I would go with a electronic bank transfer and not release the ***le until my bank says "okay".
Sold one of mine at Good Guy's a few years ago....It was actually kinda' fun, it took almost an hour with a "for sale" sign in the window. A handshake agreement, followed by a pile of cash upon delivery. Reasonably priced hot rods go quick. Pat
Cash if the bills look too new be cautious, may be fake real money always feels right dirty, like its been p***ed around, kinda like my girls used but worthy
You can get a pen at the office stores like the banks use to check bills. But, find a local branch that is open at a Walmart or whatever and do the transaction there. Does Goodguys have a Bank setup as a vendor? Lots of shows have em now there offering financing............just some ideas.
Most bigger shows have a bank and notary right on site, a simple call ahead should let you know if that's the case.
Thanks for the interest, I'll put it on the HAMB cl***ifieds soon but some basics are a ch***is with history and a custom Gibbon body. I'd like $45k. Ryan did a Jalopy Journal feature on it. Here's the rest of the link http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=110109 I am greatfull for the sales advise, I never thought about a bank on site with a notary. I always wondered how it works. C.
even though I am not a fan of gl*** cars, I have to admit yours is one cool lookin' ride. Good luck with the sale.
do you have an appraisal for the car? May help with some of the peeps looking at it to 'justify' your price(not saying its not worth it- some guys out there might want something in writing by and 'official' or something) - If you want to sell fast there are two other mainstream sites I recommend posting an ad on: www.americanrodsandrides.com and www.hotrodhotline.com both have great people to work with and lots of views when you sell there. My suggestion is to hold off and really think about it- once its gone , you may not get a chance to own another ever again.
The ***le is worthless (in relation) and you don't want to get left holding a ***le, and the car is gone. This happens all the time. Car is gone, check is no good, owner is left holding a worthless ***le. It's easy to get a new ***le, so why would someone want your old ***le? Anyway, take cash, and don't be ashamed to look at each of the bills. New bills only. Look at the serial numbers, and the security features. The only person you should trust, is your mother.
