This is the view out of my garage as I am typing this post. Am I going to be ready???? HELL YES!!! These are the little elves that are out there helping the thing go back together faster so I know with all this kind of help in the 104 degree heat it shouldn't' be a problem!! Any of you farther along than me at this point or farther behind post some picks!!!!!!

Some progress. I got the engine and ****** back in and taking the drive shaft to be shortened in the morning. Any suggestions on the 700R4 shifter?? Everything should be back together and at the local drag strip for the Thursday night test and tune hopefully. If not I may have to find a nice straight stretch close to home this coming weekend to shake things out.

I use a B & M Mega shifter with my 700R4. It took a while to get used to it. The funky thing is when you put it in park.
The thing I don't like about the 700R4 is that it shifts out of low too soon. I believe I can adjust that out with the TV cable. I run 3.73 rear gears in mine but, I also drive it quite a bit on the street. What gears are you planning on running?

Binderrod, I'm no expert on trannies, but I have two of the 700r's and one shifts out of low real quick. If the other gears are fine, you will not be able to adjust the low range shift with the cable. I talked to a tanny mechanic down here and was told that there are several different springs that can be installed on the low gear and it depends on which one you have that dictates where low shifts at.
I tried to adjust mine out and second, third were shifting at almost 4000 rpm and the low gear shift never changed.
On the other ****** in my 48 coupe, it shifts out at whatever redline is on the small block Chevy. It is set up so that overdrive locks in second gear which I'm sure will make a difference.

Get the transgo 'no yo yo' kit SK700 - that should cure the shift point problems in early transmissions. They're a "shift kit" like what most of the good rebuilders put in for stockish rebuilds (not race/performance kits) - about $50 at the local trans parts supply house (I used to use MoKan in shawnee, ks when I worked out that way - now I'm downtown and need a different supplier)

I think the transmission spring change will wait till this winter. Thanks for the help, Keith

It wasn't planned this way but it only seems fitting that I got the Henry-J back together today as it is my old mans birthday,"WEEKENDER" on the HAMB. I got all the new goodies on and finally pulled it out of the driveway for a spin, of the tires that is. A few more little things tonight and it is on the trailer for the long haul to MOKAN on Thursday. It sure feels good to be behind the wheel again.

    SEEEEE YOUU AT THE DRAGGGGGG"SSSSSS!!!

Timmy, I hope to meet up with you. Your dad was a good friend. I first saw that J in Wentzville in the 80's I was like 14 or so, and when I was 19 I bought a stocker Henry J, dropped the front, and primered it gray, and drove it all over central MO, that was in about 93-94. That is when I met your dad and shade tree. we all 3 had J's and went to many cruises together. My J had Bevis and ****Head painted on the trunk and still had the stock banger in it. But loads of fun. I have several pix of your O'l man and shade and I parked together. Glad to see the yellow J back in action. I'll keep an eye out for your car so I can introduce myself. later, Rusty.

I am set on go and headed out in the morn,,,, FLAMEDABONE will probably blow by me at 9A.M but I will make it just the same, shy of a ****ING TORNADO blowing me into hell,,, I will be there!!!!!!!!!!!!!
