Wow. I just got an email from the guy I bought my motor and******* from last week. He went to check out the car and noticed that the radiator and drive shaft were missing, which were not part of the deal. Sure enough, they're still in the back of my pickup under tires, chains, tarps and other implements of destruction. I think the old fellas who helped me remove the motor got a little excited when they found out the car was going to be crushed and tried to grab everything that might be useful, not considering this was not part of said deal.

I hope I haven't burnt any bridges, and I sent an email back to him saying I'd be happy to return the parts or send him money (it's a 2.5 hour drive into bumfuck) but I feel my Carma just had a huge***** taken on it today.

Just needed to vent. Hope if I do return the parts that he doesn't kick my****, or kill me and dump my body into the crusher. Anyone else had similar experiences, or is everyone too smart to fall into this rut I've gotten myself into?
    :( :( :( :(

I bought a flathead from this old grouch around my area. Made the deal and paid him up front. The deal was I would do the wrenchin so he could pull it out and I was to have it out by the weekend. the next day I show up and get it ready to pull. He says he doesn't have time to take his tractor back there and lift it out (its about noon). We make plans for the next day. I show up and he is not there so I talk one of his grunts into driving the tractor back and pullin it and putting it in my truck. The next time I show up at the yard to get something else he is fighting mad and wants another $100. says the starter, generator, and carb don't go with it. "When I sell an engine that don't include all that other stuff, Normally I wouldn't let you have the heads either, but its a Flathead". I offered to bring them back but he said "how do I know there the same ones".
What a joke!!! to top that the block was trash

Dam. He checks to see if you stole something AFTER you left? Never heard of such a thing. Since it was going to be crushed, your parts must be worth a penny a pound for steel, 55 cents a pound for the raditor. I wanna hear how much he wants for the parts he was crushing out.

he might take you in front of judge judy, try and smooth it over and pay him:eek:

  6. not really the point. Doesn't matter whether the parts are worth pennies or millions. The parts weren't part of the deal. And they are his parts. He has the right to be able to keep his parts.

All the old yards are selling out for various reasons. I sure don't want to mess up on the old one I found recently. This 82 year old owner is nasty when he is sizing you up, but I think I'll pay his price on a parts car, and maybe get better deals later. I just hope no more old yards close up.

Yeah, they were my friends that helped me pull the motor. I think they had the best intentions in mind, but damned if it doesn't*****. Almost all the metal recyclers hear in Maine no longer sell their material because some****hole climbed on a mountain of steel, fell off, got hurt, and won a lawsuit because the yard failed to post signs warning idiots not to climb up mountains of random parts. The fact that this yard is private, the guy is a cool***** (or at least was before this issue came up) and he'd let me poke around looking for random bits is just one reason I'd like to stay in his good graces. I'm not a thief, and I intend to make it right and play nice doin it because I'm in the wrong. I called his number and returned his email, but I'm going to be sitting on pins and needles until this is resolved. I just feel like*****.

Don't take it too personally. I've found that most junkyard operators think they are getting robbed blind. They walk through their yard and every car that's missing a part they try to tell you "somebody stole it".

I'm sure lots of stuff does get stolen and trashed by people who just don't give a damn, but if it was really important stuff, they'd take better care to make sure stuff doesn't happen to it.

Figure out what you think the "extras" are worth to you and mail him a check. Even if he doesn't quite agree about the price, at least he'll have more than if the stuff got stolen, crushed or trashed.

I say drive back there and apologize. Offer to pay for the parts(within reason). I think that will flush all the***** out of your Karma.

Gotta be careful with the old****holes who own the junkyards. As said above, they think everyone is stealing and most of them "size you up" to see how much you will pay(what kind of vehicle you pull up in speaks dollars to them), or how much you will run your mouth. Ever notice how most of those guys are real quiet? They will let you step all over your*****.

If he thinks you stole from him, he might not trust you anymore, PERIOD. The guys who have been around here in Lower Alabama and Georgia for years are NOT fools. They still have all the old cars, and only let who they want to in their yard. I would bring some buddies and they would tell me not to bring them back. PERIOD.

Thanks John56h and drock6570 for the ideas. Hell, this car was so rough, we considered just hooking the front bumper up to the back of my truck and just letting her rip. In hindsight, I'm REALLY glad I talked myself out of that - lord knows what kind of***** I'd be in right now.
I know the parts aren't worth much - hell the drive shaft is bent and the radiator has a HUGE solder spot in the back. Regardless, I gotta make amends. I just hope he doesn't get all astronomical about what he thinks the parts are worth. I'll drive them all the way back up there if I have to, gas be damned, but I need to clear my conscience.
What really*****s is that I spent what money I had on the motor and******* and gas getting there and back and lunch for my "crew". The yard owner knows this as I had negotiated a price on the back windshield and surround of that car and told him I couldn't swing it at the time.
    Shit.*****.*****.

    Gigantor,

Just do the right thing you'll sleep better. Don't mail it, go there and pay him. Face to face is always better..................

    CRUISER:cool:

  17. I would just be honest, tell 'em your buddies thought it was part of the deal and threw them in your truck and never told you, and you'd be happy to return them or pay for them or something. I almost got screwed on a deal like that on a couple parts and I just paid the guy, but that was a whole situation in itself.

Did you state motor and trans... or did you say you wanted the drive train or running gear? Motor and trans is... motor and trans.. Running gear can include lots more... Jason.

Don't feel bad about it, it's just a misunderstanding. Karma's not going to do anything - you're trying to make right on the deal. When the old man tells you what he wants (money or parts) then make it happen - quick!

Another thing to think about is a yard that still has old kool***** around means they don't care if they sell any of it or not. They make their real money on the new BS car parts. You should try to square up with him if you intend to go back. If you are not going to ever go back, who cares? I wouldn't worry about "karma". If a black cat crosses your path do you X the windshield or do you try to hit that raggedy POS?

Dude, it's the principle. I couldn't sleep at night knowing the guy did me a solid the old fashioned way with a handshake and a smile and a decent price. It's getting harder and harder to find people willing to trust each other these days for letting***** like this slide. Even if I never go back, it will be on my conscience every time I turn a bolt on that engine like so many other things I*****ed up on in my youth that I can't fix now. I'm trying to be the bigger person, even if I never intend to go back.

All you can do it try your best to make it right in you mind. The rest is up to the other guy.

As a side note, a few years ago, my bro and I were getting a steel wheel for my cop car at a local junkyard. We found a car and began to wrench. A wild eyed yardman comes up to us and tells us to to get the hell out cause he's told us twice and that we better not be stealing stuff. I explain that we just got there, and to ask the counter guys if he didn't believe me. I also said that I would never seal from that place, as I wanted to be able to come back. I think he expacted us to be some*****head kids.

I know that uneasy feeling you have, and I hope it works out.

You might be surprised when you do a face to face apology with the man, be straight with him about what happened.

  27. Take him the money along with a bottle of Black Jack and I,m sure he will be okay. Its amazing how people can change when they are getting something for nothing.....

everyones right, do the right thing. But don't let him walk over you!! If you think the price he asks is too much tell him that you can't afford it & bring them back! But it sounds like hes reasonable. The unforunate thing is he'll probably always have this in the back of his mind & it'll show in his attitude towards you.I think its over betweens ya's!!lol
Also you must have a pretty messy P/U if you didn't notice a Radiator & drivedshaft in there that didn't belong!!

JimV - well, with the giant a-frame, jacks, jack stands, spare tire, tires, blocks, tarps, chains, ropes, hubcaps, toolboxes, boxes of parts, crates of chemicals, coolers, plywood pieces, and boxes of parts my friends picked up AND the fact that the sun was setting when we did pull out of there, I was dismayed that I missed seeing those in there but not really surprised I could have overlooked those pieces. Still waiting to hear back from him. I like the bottle of Black Jack idea. Even if it is over with him, I will feel better once this issue has been cleared up.
