Rob Kinnan, Editor from HOT ROD contacted me today to confirm I'll be included in the Bench Racing story of "Commuter Rods". Used as a daily driver, my low-budget build was never expected to be featured so this is sort of a great way to be included. I'm pretty excited not only to be included, but this particular story confirms my way of thinking on relying on an older car for everyday use versus giving in and buying a jellybean car. And at 300 freeway miles a week, I've really put this theory to the test, three years running.
I had one of those (63 futura 6 cylinder, four spped) it was my daily for two years. It was pretty cold in that car come January and Febuary. 25 mile one way daily. Sold it later for twice what I paid for it. Great cars
My Mom just called from Ohio and said she saw my car in Hot Rod today while at the supermarket. I hope my issue comes in tommorrow's mail. I'm pretty excited.
I dig it! I paid attention to that ride as I read that issue of HRM the last couple of nights. Nice work!
Awesome!!!! La grasta my '63 rancheros been my daily for almost 5 years! built on a budget and dependable as hell and all for dirt cheap!! gotta love falcons!
My daily driver was a 55' Chevy 210 2dr with a 355, 4 spd and 4:56 gears. Commute was 50 miles round trip. That was when gas was .65 a gal.
Congrats on the feature... but the really cool thing is that your mom reads Hot Rod at the supermarket.
Yeah, I guess that is pretty cool. Thanks. "tjm73 What's the drive train? What's the mpg's?" 170ci inline 6, two speed Ford-O-Matic, 8" 3:00 on 14" rims. I get around 20mpg depending on my foot and the A/C.
Strange, my wife just called me at work and said some guy left his number at the house. He wanted to know if I was the one with the Falcon in HR.
My congrats to you. It is good to see Hambers get magazine recognition for the cars they have and are using
Thanks everyone. Turns out my stalker was just a fan from NY and wants more pics to help direct his build. A few years back, I saw a post somewhere on the internet of a build and saw a pic of my car in his trunk. Of course I had to give him hell about it. Ha.
I wasn't going to beat a dead horse carcass- thanks for doing it for me Ricky! And good job LaGrasta taking it all in stride and building a cool car despite all the initial ribbing. I envy the person that can enjoy their old car daily while I can't even find the time to make one of my 6 projects run. Good for you, looking forward to the magazine.
