I hate to say it, but this cat is right. It*****s that people are taking everything to the crusher now days, but what can you do. I was going to buy an old 46 chevy cab to use as parts for mine. THe guy had already said that I could get it, but when I went back 3 days later he had already crushed. DAMN!

You're doin it right. Ya sound like a real stand up guy that wants to do the right thing no matter what. Face the guy , apologize for your buddies mistake that you didn't know about, offer to pay or return and if he's even a little reasonable,***** will work out for you with no problems. I live my life largely on principle too and it gets me in deep***** sometimes when I think I'vs been***** on but if I were in your place it would be buggin the hell out of me too. Do what you think is right

I was gonna suggest a 12 pack of Coke instead of the Black jack, but if you end up mailing him a payment, add a $10 to McDonalds or something.

It's like runnin' over a farmers dog, alive he got yelled at and told he was a stupid lazy so and so, and not worth the price of cheap feed. Dead, he was the best workin' dog in the district, won every championship for the last ten years, and worth at least***xxx$$$$$.

Don't offer to buy the parts, take them back and say, sorry for the misunderstanding, I won't insult you further by making you an offer,
(which is also saying, I don't value these parts enough, not even to steal them), and I hope I havn't burnt any bridges, I like coming here when I can and hope I'm welcome back.
BTW you'll be lucky if he does'nt tell you to piss off, he knows, and we know that you know at the very least you took a quick look in the back of the pickup before you left his place. You pinched his parts, and now you're angry and ashamed because he called you account for your actions. He knows those parts are worth***** all
he's called on you to be an honourable man, so far you've failed.
The fact you've had a bleat here before the parts have been returned also tells me something.

Stand down Bro, it was a mistake. Sorry to have given you the wrong impression, but we have worked it out. I'll be paying him for the parts and he even asked me if I was still interested in some other parts we had talked about, so I guess my bridges aren't totally burned, just a little singed.

Problem is most wrecking yards have employees that are robbing them blind (If you work at a wrecking yard please take no offence. You probably know somebody else that works there thats a thief) and they take it out on the honest customers.

Now this is (or I guess at this point WAS) a strange post.

A guy feeling like he ripped of a junkyard....

You must be one helluva guy Gigantor - your reputation just went way up in my book - because I've never met a 'yard owner who wasn't a low down dirty thief himself.

I'm not talking about guys who find and collect hundreds of collectable car parts, those guys aren't crooked - just nuts - but the 'yard owners are always looking for a way to profit on the exchange (nature of the biz.). The only way you get a good deal from them is if they've already made a load of cash of of the same pile of junk and it's on it's way to the smelter. You can get in there just before it goes to the crusher and scrounge up a good deal - but your timing has to be right. I got an entire interior from a 73 Nova all of the trim and stuff that's hard to get - and the seats - all for $10 bucks (in 1992 give or take a year). It was literally hours before it went off to the shredder and it was the only really good deal I ever made in a junkyard.

    Pat on the back Gigantor.

I appreciate it Broman - I try to do unto others as I would expect them to do unto me, and I'm sorry if some people felt I was bleating about getting caught out - but it's just not the case. The guy is being more than cool about it, and even though he wants more for the parts than I feel they're worth, I'll gladly pay it and if finances allow I WILL throw in the bottle of Black Jack as an extra thank you for being so understanding.
He even said he'd tuck the car up in a safe place until I was ready to buy more parts off it, so he can't be too upset and I think I can sleep tonight.

Hey....just returning the yard owner's phone call was an honorable thing to do. I'll bet he'll be shocked when you actually return to square up on the deal. He'll remember your honesty.

  10. When I was in high school, I knew a lot of the wrong people. Funny thing, the biggest thieves were always having***** ripped off from them. Call it karma, call it 'creating your own reality' or WTF-ever you want. What we do and what we say does influence people in unrelated dealings.

Example, I just sent something for free to someone on the moparts board who I've never met up in Canada; in exchange, he'll weld it to his car and take high-quality pics. You better bet I checked his posts to see what kind of guy he is.

  11. okay okay find out what he wants ... i know it*****s...
but pay it and a little more for the turmoil ya caused
if way to much for the condition of parts offer to pay some small fee and you will return the parts and pay in person..asap

get a couple of checks from your cohorts and mail then too

let him know you goofed up and they goofed up
also ask if ya can help him somehow... dunno, dinner ,case o beer leads on other cars for him ????

today your a thief to him... turn it around as soon as ya can..
unless you never want to do business there again handle it like a stand up joe

he'll remember the effort long after the 15bucks worth of stuff is gone..
i took 6 dollars worth of parts from a yard when i was 13 and got caught and was barred from one of the best yards in the state
til i made it right years later ...

Don't get me wrong, I don't like thieves and I wouldn't hardly kick some old lady in the**** who is walking across the street, but Gigantor is just too good!! I hope the junkyard guy doesn't pinch him on the***** when he goes back with too much $ for a bent driveshaft and a bottle of wine. Maybe take a box of chocolates too!! J/K Gigantor just raggin ya!!:D

I'm a big dude, but he is BIGGER. He could pinch my**** and get away with it. Not the kind of guy I want on my bad side, and besides, Maine is a small little world unto itself, and I don't want this to come around and bite me in the**** someday when I need something but my "reputation" has preceeded me in a bad way.

Sounds like you got it worked out, that's good.

Keep in mind that junkyard owners are always in the scrapping business. I know that I get about $1.50 a pound for radiators and driveshafts are considered "prepared steel" which is worth more per ton also, so even if the parts were worthless as far as functionality, he'd be losing out on $40 worth of recycling money.

Very cool that you were able to work things out with the guy, speaks volumes about yourself.
