I spent a couple hours fabbin' up some motor mounts, I am using '61 Pontiac transmission mounts, they are a close match to the Stude mounts, they look like hockey pucks with a bolt top and bottom. first I got the car at ride height and engine located, bolted the biscuits in place and with a little measuring I made up some towers and top plates here's the proto-type and second one ready to cut,
still need to build a transmission mount and attach the rear bones, and one or two other little things,, to be continued. Paul
I feel so inadequate...I only did some clean-up electrical and a gauge install today... ...you need to "vacation" in Michigan sometime soon! (Ummm...bring your welding stuff! ) ANOTHER wicked post...keep at it, Dude!!!

Those voluntary layoffs can be really productive when you use them like you have. Around here with the GM factory guys it usually results in a HUGE pile of empties in the garage and little else. Then when they have about a week left before being called back they start pissing and moaning about where the time went and how little they got done. Sorry to get so OT. Great series Paul, I'm hanging on every word and picture. When you get it done I'll just tack a copy on the wall and build mine. Frank

On my 40 Dodge the previous owner installed a GM sub frame and I'd like to install a sb mopar in it. I'd also like to lower the front end by either cutting coils or drop spindles. I also plan on updating the rear suspension. So would it better to do these updates before I fab up mounts or after? Thanks for the info. later plmczy
Hi plmczy, I am not giving you step by step instructions because every job is different and as they say there are more ways then one to skin a cat. as long as your plan is well thought out and all obstacles are anticipated it doesn't much matter where you start. if in your case you just want to get on the road, then by all means do the motor install first, then drop the front, then update the rear. but even if you do it all one step at a time you need to look at the car as a whole, its no big deal, just basic hot rodding. And remember, you can not own a car, but a car can own you Paul
Ok, I just thought that if I fabbed the motor mounts then lowered it that the motor would be off kilt. But I guess as long as I don't give it a in the weeds front end drop and keep the ass end up I should be alright. later plmczy
