OK well Denise and Meg and the Chrome Czars all know that despite my love of cars, I myself, having grown up in downtown Boston, do not drive. And there is a lot of stupid stuff that goes along with that. I spent the afternoon planning my routes for next week and JUST realized that Des Moines is NOT one of the quad cities. I would have been soooo ****ing confused on that leg of the trip. I am seriously such a dumb *****. So when all of you are driving by a rental dodge neon on the side of the road with two dumb *****s looking at a big map.... stop and lend a hand will ya?
yeah and the only way I know to give directions is "after the rotary, bang a left at the dunkin donuts"
Take US Interstate Highway 55 South to St. Louis Missouri. At St. Louis, take Interstate Highway 44 South to Joplin, Missouri. You cant miss I44. It's right in the middle of the map.
ummm.... you've never met me. My favorite getting lost story is a few years ago after a night of Wild Turkey I took a cab home..... ish.... all I remember is after the cab dropped me off ON MY STREET, I walked around for about 20 minutes.... then had to call Hellfish to come pick me up. He made me walk to the street corner and read the signs to him so he would know where to get me. They don't call me the dumb ***** for nuthin'. I plotted the whole week long road trip on AAA Triptik and we got a GPS - we'll get there.
the one place where you're most likely to get lost is when you cross the mississippi river from illinois into st. louis. when you're on that bridge you'll be on interstates I-55, I-64, and I-70, along with US-50 and who knows how many other numbered roads. as you come off of the bridge I-70 turns to the right, I-64 goes straight, & I-55 goes to the left. TO STAY ON I-55, THOUGH, YOU'LL "EXIT" TO YOUR RIGHT. watch for the signs & stay on I-55 for a couple of more miles. then you'll see I-44 taking off on your right. that's where I-44 starts. i haven't seen the AAA triptik for st. louis, but mapquest shows the intersections i've mentioned really well when you zoom waaaaay in. so does google-earth. if you can make it from I-55 onto I-44 then you'll get there just fine.
Thanks for the heads up on that one.... it's that kinda **** that ****s me up all of the time. I appreciate it!
you need to do something to the rental so as the folks driving know its you... maybe hang a bra from the antenna?
You guys are sooooo funny. People will know it's me... in my "Dodge neon or similar" from enterprise. We are writing "HAMB Drags or Bust" on the back window. But I *do* have my liquor luggage packed and ready to go... Jameson, Vodka, multiple mixers, multiple size cups, stirrers... several bottles of wine...
He isn't joking about this big *** mess..... I've been driving that rout (or at least one like it) for 25+ yrs and STILL have to watch that interchange. I think they change something or detour that at least once a year just for fun. Lay off the hooch a while before you get to it..... May need to pound a few energy drinks too.... Good luck.......
Yes, While on the Poplar Street Bridge you have to take the 55-S exit, on the right, to get to 44-W. Depending on the time you get in that area, the traffic might make you cry. The Il. to Mo. traffic blows in the morning, To the extent that words can not describe how it makes me feel. You can take a little drive through the all-ways popular East Side, if you want to avoid that traffic. I dont think the surgeon general would recommend that, though.
Well considering this thread was before the drags LAST year, I am happy to report that we did in fact make it there and back. And believe it or not, Atch's advice did help. This year we are flying in and out of Memphis and I am just now starting to plan the route. Between AAA triptik, the atlas, and the gps I think we will be OK. The only things I really want to do is download Mr T's voice on my TomTom. How ****ing cool is that? But I can't seem to get that feature to work so I have to listen to that British bimbo.
The feature is now working so I just have to remember to bring my TomTom to work so I can download it. Check it out - there's so many voices. Not only do they have Burt Reynolds and Dennis Hopper, but they also have a ****ty girl - check out Sylvia. http://www.tomtom.com/plus/services/voices.php
Doesn't the L go thru Joplin? LOL I have long thought my GPS sounded like a stripper, hence her name, Anastasia! Mr. T would rock though! So if you go the wrong way is he going to say "I pity the fool!"? You HAVE to let me know
