Hello everybody. Ive read through tons of frame builds on the tech section but I'm still unsure of what size steel tube to get. Im going to the steel place tomorrow and dont know if I should get 2x4 .120 thick or 2x3 for my chassis build? I have 31 A coupe and want the body channeled completely over the frame, Z'd in the front and z'd in the back to sit as low as possible with a suicide front end and extended wheel base. Lastly, should I go with .120 thickness or thicker. I want it as strong as possible but also want to fit in it after the chop & channel.

    Thanks for any info,

2x3 is fine. .125 wall will work.

I asked the same question recently and the majority said 2" x 3" 11 gauge, which is .120" wall.

I bought 2x3 .120 wall for mine. I hear that if you want to tap the frame for any mountings to get 3/16 wall

Thank you all for the replies. I was leaning towards 2x3 too but read where a couple guys used 2x4 which they did cut some out of in the front, but I just thought that was too thick for me. I'll be loading up the trailer with steel tomorrow and post pics of my progress.

    Thanks again

I used 2x3. One thing to think about is that 2x4 leaves more room to tuck your exhaust system up out of the way. If you're using an under floor master cylinder it tucks it out of way for better protection.

I bought 2x3 but went with a 3/16" wall for a little added thickness and possibilty to tap it if needed. Thanks again.

I used 2X4 mainly because that is about the same as the original size. I did trim the front to taper into the frame horns like stock but left it full size at the rear and just notched the end over the axle.

Thanks for the reply I did measure my original frames and it is 4" thick at the widest point like you said thats why I was between the two sizes. I guess either will work fine, btw nice pic of your chassis.
