I want to thank Chad aka MOPARMORTUARY for not only saving this car but for selling it to me at a great price AND delivering it straight to my driveway from central Missouri. I know he's getting his car delivery service off the ground, so if you are looking to have a nice car moved, I recommend you give him a call. He has good equipment and you couldn't deal with a nicer guy. As for the car, I invited all my good buddies over to tell me I should yank the Hemi and trim and scrap what's left of this poor car. It sat outside for 30 years full of leaves. To a man, they said I need to replace the front and rear floor pans, trunk pan and extensions, inner and outer rockers, quarters, repair a few spots on the cowl, base of the roof, and around the trunk, and get another fender, door, and decklid for it. Thanks a lot guys. It does have some good going for it. It's got its Hemi and all its trim, frame is solid, it's complete as could be, and it's actually straight as an arrow. Not to mention it's my favorite car of all time (see sig). Wish me luck, I ain't no Plowboy...
I have to agree... It's a great looking car. might be a hell of alot of metal fab and welding, but you don't see them around every corner.
Not yet. But my friend DID put his cigarette out on the roof. He's never posted here, and there's a good chance he won't get to...
They don´t make more of these (either). Save it. DeSotos are awesome. Nice looking Plymouth you got there too...
aw man! dont scrap that=( poor things not dead yet! ive saved... i mean, driven worse. lol i say at least make a cool bar hop out of it. looks like it could be fun. fix what needs fixin then drive it.
What a bomb- Good Luck with whatever path you choose, my mopar veins are showing, I didn't even realize until lately I had the disease!!-proud new owner of a 56 2-dr suburban Plymouth-Sololobo/Roadburners of Omaha
Despite her problems, she's a beauty and its your god given duty to return her to her former glory! ....only 4 inches lower. great car.
Damn what a find. A lot of work, but still an awesome find. I think I gotta hate you now showing this...
Awesome.....you found one!!!! Great car....... Now if I can just get the guy down the street to sell me his '58.........he he
We have been working on a Hudson in about that shape. Unless you LOVE the car, (and I already know you do ) then it may not be worth the work. So roll up those sleeves and have at it!! It's gonna be RED, right?
THere was a cat in mississippi that had a 57 like that and he was trying to tell me that it was a limited addition Falcon! This guy owen a junk yard and was sending me all of the place looking for a 46 chevy that he didn't even have. When I would the "46" its was a 50 ford
You bring back memories. My second car was a 57 Desoto 4 door hard-top (Turqoise with white trim and white roof). I found some wire-wheel hubcaps. It was THE car to go smoke cigarettes in during lunch... I was the only kid in student parking with a Hemi!
If you don't fix that car, you're a pussy. Seriously though, that's fixable. I've fixed much worse. I know there's a 57 Chrysler in a nearby junkyard that might have some good parts if you need anything, and I have some leftovers from a '57 Chry. I parted out about a month ago. '57 Desoto is the best looking 50's car design, hands down. My version would be green and white, but I could see it in black.
Black with gold, but not nearly an Adventurer clone. Think early '60s style mild custom. Shaved badges and handles, really low, '54 Mercury hood scoop. Stick shift.
When I was a kid I sent off to FOMOCO, Chrysler, GMC, and other manufactures for what they called a "Press Pack" giving info on their lates cars. All the ones I have left are from MOPAR and here are some of the photos I still have (I have '56, '57, & '58 DeSoto pictures from the 50's). '57 MOPAR's are some of the best looking cars ever.
What a happy bastard you are! Forward Look rust and rot... it's very sexy. Reminds me of photos of some Chinese fishermen butchering a Whale Shark. All black? No! Black and gold? Not bad. Ivory and gold? good too. What the hell is so wrong with red and white? Stick shift? Are you insane, sir? God herself made that a push button transmission, tamper not. More unsolicited advice: switch the wire wheels from the wagon to the DeS. Put the chrome wheels on the wagon (but not the wide whites). Forgive me my covetousness. (one of the Seven Deadly Sins!)
Nothing. I could still change my mind. Lots of red/white late '50s Mopars out there though. Yeah, with overdrive too. On the floor! Crazy, I know. Check and check. Just checking fitment on the wagon's disc brakes. And, those front chrome steel wheels don't fit over the brakes. Got to order another pair for the wagon this week. All those whitewalls were freebies, that's why they don't match. And I'm not a big fan of those rear 5" whitewalls anyway - they came off an early '50s Cadillac. Thanks everyone, for the interest in my poor old car.
I say cast out he who would seek to divide the Hemis from the Push-button Control Torque-Flyts! This is The Word and it is Just!
