Had, a guy in my shop a while back and he had seen my model t amu*****t ride from knott's berry farm in my show room it has pinstripe work on it, he was saying that Von dutch did a lot of work for knott's in the early 60's does any one from so. cal have any info. on this? I will post some pic's tonight
My dad has one of those Knotts Berry cars- I've always just heard Roth worked there. They took the cars out in the late '80s- and they were painted many times over the years to always look fresh.
What actually was Knotts-berry Farm anyway, I always thought it was a hippie compound or something...
Progression; Knotts family Knotts farm growing berries Knotts berry farm pie stand Knotts Berry Farm Restaurant specialiing in Berry Pies Knott buys ghost town of Calico and moves most of the buildings to farm for a "playground" amu*****t park with a bit of keeping it real historical significance. (60's) Park had free parking, free admission and charged for burro and train rides around the park, and was a great place for hangin out and picking up chicks. '66 Dr J gets permanently 86'd from park for pickingup Head of Security's daughter ( I didn't know!) and getting caught with her in the back seat of his car in the parking lot... Some time after that park gets expanded Disneyland style and admission is charged and I don't know any more about it because I haven't been back since I got kicked out...Dad was armed... The above is completely true.
I also have the grill insert. I've been getting it signed, Garlits, Jungle Pam, Bruce Larson, Gene Winfield, and a bunch more. Notice the fancy attachment hardware originally used...body putty!
I remember that car on the cover of a late 70s(I think) Popular Hot Rodding with sparks coming off the wheelie bars. I had that magazine for years...
That was the running car, I have the display car that was in the park. Never had a motor...easier to push around! I just wanted it for the Roth connection anyway. I also picked up the promo pack they did for the cars on ebay. Talked with Steve Shrewsberry (Bills son) a while back and asked if they had any photos of Roth painting the cars. He sais they didnt (damn!), also said Roth painted both cars in the alley behind their shop. I guess it was part of his dutys as the sign painter for the park.
Did Don Knotts have anything to do with the park? Dr. J, are you sure you didn't pick up his daughter? Nah, probably not, because I don't think Don was much for having anything to do with the female kind, I've seen Three's Company a few times.
Wasnt the ride 'montezumas revenge' there ? I remember that was one of the first rollercoasters I rode on, my dad thought it was the greatest ever at the time.
Roth did all the sign work and other stuff at Knotts, he did the whole "Very Berry " {i think that was the name } ride. Roth worked with me when i managed Movieworld, and Dutch was around also.
Am I the only one who thinks that Don Knotts as Mr Furley looks a lot like the Mick Jagger of the Stones today?
Yes, they do look alike. Check out the Stones' "Waiting On Friend" video where Mick wears a trilby hat, the resemblence (sp) is uncanny.
While neither Roth or Dutch were top notch stripers by todays standards, That work looks way too crude to have been done by either in my opinion.
