Three parts on Youtube. Shows the 1959 NHRA Nationals. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=C9F4E28037EE1AC6 Pretty cool. Don't know if it's been posted before.
Try here.. http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=ingenuity%20in%20action%20AND%20subject%3A%22Car%20culture%3A%20Hot%20rods%22 If this link doesn't work, it's www.archive.org Type in ingenuity in action, or Sid Davis, and hit 'GO'. At the bottom of the search results will be listings saying 'Keywords: Car culture: Youth; Car culture: Hot rods; California: History and culture'. Those also will take you to other cool old films. There are also all kinds of Sid Davis production films archieved on this site. You can't blow them up very big. I was really surprised at the amount of hot rod stuff that was here.
We don't do proxy servers here at work. I've been there done that. They monitor this stuff way to much. I can turn off the server firewall from by desk through a backdoor I found but hey, watching a video here that I can just watch at home later isn't worth getting fired. Sweet video though. Worth the wait.
i have that clip and a whole bunch of cool clips on vhs (including the all american soap box derby of 1936) very nice drags in em all
I'm kind of a neophyte on this stuff but how does an Allison run in the same class as a SBC - and lose??
I found that title with 2 others on ebay a while back. The Parker Boys in the film are from Odessa TX. I know a family member and he didn't know the film existed until I gave him a copy. The coupe was called GrandMa. I will have to catch up on the history of that crew and post it.
http://positiveapeindex.blogspot.com/2006/09/ingenuity-in-action.html I posted these clips on my blog about a year ago, and longtime hotrodder Gale Banks wrote me a cool note about some of the dudes involved: "Coop, et.al. What a pleasant half hour, weve come a long way. Heres my two cents; The NHRA secretary, Barbara Livingston, became Wallys wife and the mother of Bonneville racer David Parks. A good friend, Barbara left us last year, she is missed. The guy they call Lefty looks like Allen Lefty Mudersbach. Lefty was killed qualifying when his chute failed at old San Gabriel, early 1966. My special tools roll-a-way used the last 40 years was a gift from Mrs. Mudersbach. Its a Craftsman with a Lefty innovation, a chrome bathroom towel bar screwed to the side. Forty years ago I thought that was pure style. Im still proud it was Leftys. The guy looks like Lefty and I think Im right because his twin engined dragster is not racing, so he must have gone to the Nationals with the Dragmaster boys. The guy in the Moon shirt buying a beer is Dean call before noon Moon. The Potvin blown cars are thick at this race; I dont remember when Moon bought Potvin. Ill bet it was before most of the guys discovered the desirability of blower overdrive/underdrive v/s streamlining. Or Potvin=Bonneville and overdrive=drag race, which became much more popular. The Dragmaster guys are wearing Racer Brown Camshaft shirts. Racer was a very cerebral guy and a stunning chat on all matters engine. An early advocate of roller smash-its, thats exactly what they changed between rounds, one of Racers Rollers. Ohio George tried and liked turbochargers, my man. Thats it from memory lane, thanks for the trip/flashback. Gale Banks P.S. Jesus, I miss all those guys they were some very clever cats."
