I've been lurking here on this board for the past few months taking in a wealth of knowledge. I would really like to start some type of hotrod project, but I'm not working on a huge budget. Living in upstate NY there is not a large selection of great vehicles either. I have a good amount of general automotive knowledge, and have always done all my own work on any vehicle I've owned. I've been big into bikes over the past 5 years. I'm trying to clear out most of the Japanese **** I have now. I'll keep the British I'm a beginner when it comes to fabrication, but I can weld and do the basics. I have a welder and torch and a wealth of hand and air tools. I would like to start a hotrod project before winter gets here. I've done a lot of looking and found a few prospects. Two mid 40's Dodge pickups with straight 6's. They are in reasonable shape for upstate NY, and have been sitting for at least 25 years. No beds, and seem to have been a flatbed type truck. A 40's ford pickup with a flathead v8. The cab is rough as is most of the rest of the truck. No bed. Also have a lead on a 56 GMC pickup, no bed, been parked 25 years. No idea on the engine/trans. I tend to like the Dodge the most out of the three although the GMC is much closer to being road ready. (Plus I have the potential of getting two trucks out of the deal) What's everyones' thoughts?
I know a guy around here that has a 48 ford f1, a 46 gmc , 41 plymouth coupe and a 36 Stude. Commander and probably some more .Where in Upstate NY are ya??
No hot rods here.... just "kulture". PS: Why call it japanese "****"? I'd ***ume you mean older bikes.... kinda seems funny considering that those bikes are still better performers and more modern designs that american bikes are today. PPS: Go with the dodge. Cool pickups for sure.
check this one out, help save it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...ndexURL=0&photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting
Agreed. Japanese **** refers to my collection of late 70's early 80's street bikes. They range from great shape to "needs work/mechanics special" types. I've got 4 or 5 of them, plus a dirt bike and a quad. The plan is to get rid of everything except for a gs750, and my Triumph trophy in hopes of financing a hotrod project.
If you go for the Dodge, check out the "P15-D24" forum (google for it) which has a whole section on Dodge Pilothouse Trucks - a whole bunch of easygoing, knowledgeable guys there.
