I was going to make a rag top but decided to put the top back on. The top had some dents right where I cut the top out so it looks like it is warped but is not. I will pound the dents out before I weld it up...
Thanks for the compliments guys. Here is a little info on the bulid sheet. I will make a custom frame with air ride front and rear. I have a little 355 small block chevy that is sitting in my Impala that will go into the truck. 530 HP and 585 TQ. You can listen to the motor here... http://www.proworkz.com/HAN.wmv . I will also steal the trans from the Impala. I have a 750 HP big block ready to go back into the six six Impala. Impala runs low 12's with small block now, so truck should run high 10's easy... Most likely paint the truck a nice flat white. That is all I have for now.... I will keep this thread going as I progress with my build..... Dave
really clean! i just did my 41 chevy like that. i didnt want to go thru the window so i dropped it into the back panel. i think it looks much cleaner this way. really nice job on pinching your A pillars too, looks really good!
I went back and fourth with the rear window size. But I wanted to be able to see out the back. Plus it makes people have to look twice at the truck because from the back it does not look very chopped until you get to the sides and front... The chop went very smooth. Even after I had initially cut the roof out for a "Rag Top" it went back in with no issues. I used a circular saw with a metal blade to make all my cuts. The circular saw keeps everything very straight and makes a very clean cut. I hope this thread will help someone else with a chevy cab contemplating the chop process. Having a plan and sticking to it the key factor. I have never chopped a truck or car before. But from reading other posts and doing my homework I had done the chop a hundred times in my head. I have less than 6 hours into my chop where it sits now... I am by no means a beginner in metal fabrication. But beginning something you have never done is always a challenge. And it is really fun to test you creativity and fab skillz. If this thread can help one person with their chop I have done my job....!!!! So get out in the garage and start cutting...!!!!
Thanks for the pictorial, job well done. This thread has indeed helped me I am going to chop my 40 chebby in a couple weeks. gathering info and pictures like yours. I'm still not sure I'm going to do the rear window big or small, I kinda like dropping it down the back like that, the bed will be so low, the big window will help fill the big back look some. Thanks again.
Draggin the clamps are my nieghbors. He actually picked them up at our local Harbor Freight. But I have no been able to locate them in the store at all. But you can easily make the clamps. There are several threads on this site about making these exact clamps.
Harbor Freight has them cheap, by the bag full. Cheaper than you can make them. Probably a fraction of the Eastwood price.
looks like a 3 ton front end by the wheel openings, i have seen where people have shortened there grill and front splash pan to get them even lower in the front. you did a nice job on the cab.
