WTF, Home Owners Insurance

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by jrblack30, Aug 24, 2007.

  1. I recently bought my house and have a newer policy. Well, yesterday I recieved a cancellation notice in the mail. They cancelled my policy because I have auto parts in the side yard!. I have a plow truck parked next to my garage, the plow itself, and a couple of trannies under the truck that I recently picked up. I have quite a few cars that are all registered and insured. What kind of crap is this? I am not allowed to work on a car on my garage? Any one else have toubles like this? What companies are you using that are car guy friendly?

I am a little T'd off at this point, looking for a new insurance carrier.

Must suck. If a plow and an old truck in the yard disqualified someone, little of WV would have insurance.

Hell, try living in Florida. I got cancelled in a "lottery" and it cost me double to get it written by a new company. I also refused to let the inspector into the garage. I have been told they won't write a new policy with a disassembled auto in the garage, or if you have torches, welders, etc present at the time

That sucks big time. Is your garage attached to the house or detached?

I've also had a great experience with my insurer, I've been bugging my neighbor to get a rotten tree cut down for years and it finally falls on my garage, insurance company calls it an act of God, she doesn't have to pay a thing, I pay my deductible and get it fixed (luckily it didn't hurt either of my cars) Then a couple months later my insurance more than doubles and they tell me it's just a rate increase in our area. Never had a claim in 14 years and then this. Oh yea, and to top it off ,when the people are there doing repairs, she starts biching about their compressor being to close to her house and bitches at my wife while she's repainting the damaged area because she can't park where she normally does, nice! Here's some advice, if you see a possible problem with your neighbors tree or whatever avoidable accident is waiting to happen, document the hell out of it, send them a letter asking them to fix the problem and keep a copy, and take pictures. I found out when it comes to money you will find out the value of your friendship.

You live in a state that elected Hillary Clinton. Enough said? But even in my rural area of NC I can no longer have unlicensed cars sitting around outside anymore. It's time to take this country back. I hate insurance companies as much as I hate lawyers and other bottom-feeders.

Bout 5 or 6 months after a piece of the tree in front of our house fell on the house (they paid to fix), insurance company decided to cancel our insurance because of the "old car junk laying around." Didn't know a 48 Frazer sitting in the back yard away from everything was "car junk."
