Bondi Beach, bring your cossie, go for a dip but not with a nipper. BTW those dark triangular fin shapes out there behind the breakers ain't that friendly. Stay out of the rips and away from the stingers.
Just about every critter here wants to kill ya!

  3. fek, poor old ether will be shitting himself by now with all this dangerous animal chatter...

If its car bits he's after perhaps we need a decent old style wrecking yard around sydney or environs. Any ideas?

  5. sydney. just give the whole joint a wide berth. if yer looking for a aussie market rearend oxford st is the place, but dont try installing it in the car upon arrival home. the customs exam for bringing that home would be awkward to say the least. oh and its FULL of ricers. melbourne is better but even then you wont see good stuff everyday. and watch out for that kelly fellow out on the highway

  6. You guys just can't leave the Barry McKenzie shit in the past can you - and that itself was a piss take. And no, we don't have fucking corks hanging off our hats or drink Fosters. I think the man wants helpful information.

  11. well im on a 8 day count down, so i guess im checking in. im fliing into sydney and the wife and i are pretty much doing this thing blind!!! well i am, shes about got it all figured out. ive got the past info and some from other hambers who pmed me. so i hope to get in touch with a few. the one thing i would like to get, other than a few things to use on my 51 mercury build, is a austrailian license plate. unfortunatelly, all my gearhead buddies are requesting one as well. probobly kinda tacky, but what a conversation piece hanging in the shop. i dont think it would be right snagin a few without bringing some, so any hambers interested in a bit of USA for the shop, i will be bringing a stack of license plates with me. anyway, hope the flight goes well and look forward to meeting a few soon. ether

You may strike problems finding Aussie licence plates. They don't replace them on an annual basis downunder, just issue you a window sticker with the year on it, so the same old plates stay on the cars for years, until they're damaged, faded or handed in when the car is wrecked.

You will find souvenir shops that sell promotional plates, generally plastic, with pics of kangaroos etc on them, but the genuine article will probably be a bit harder to find.

Enjoy your trip, it's a cool place to visit!

    Cheers, Glen.

  13. thanks for the update glen. i guess ill just bring a stack for you guys then. maybe i can yank a couple off parked police cars?!?!?!?!

fly down to Castlemaine for a day or two!

Australia's rod capitol, Rod Hadfield's museum, wrecking yards, and BEAUTIFUL countryside!!!!

I think you can see from the tone of these posts that you'll have a "gay old time" if you leave it up to Sydney-siders to make your plans for you.

    Yes .....I'm from Melbourne.

Yep, melbournes where its at..........lol, we have to hand in licence plates when the rego is up. Its a sad thing really, as Im trying to picture some wreckers that sell old holden gear, but again from melbourne, theres not many old places around nowdays...if you arent short on cash you could buy a reco steering wheel with a repro badge, from rare spares..theres an outlet in sydney I believe, the FC holden model is my favorite. Dave at holeparts in thomastown Melbourne has alot of old holden stuff in good old crusty condition....anyway, have a good stay.....:) I will have dig through some boxes at home and see if i can find a couple of plates, they are nothing special, from memory they are not even that old for but I think I still have them somewhere:rolleyes: . ...cheers, Bert....

You're ALL WRONG Adelaide is where it's at...churches baby, and lots of em. Ether is from the bible belt after all. (you know I'm taking the p!ss right ?)

Mind you one up side of Adelaide and environs is that being dry as all hell as you go away from the coast a bit and most of the cars are less rusty. Does anyone have a copy of the HotRod form a couple of months ago which featured a junkyard in Adelaide on their back page ? I think it was down Dry Creek area, can't remember the article.

Ether, Castlemaine isn't a bad place, and the Rod Shop there is really well known - it's a bit out of the way for the scope of your trip though.

What I really think you oughta do Ether is go up north of Sydney and pick this up for me..

It's that Sloper unique to Australia we talked about once.

  17. There is an old Holden wrecker in Sydney. Well, Riverstone actually. Couldn't tell what they've got specifically, but the stuff is pretty old.

Yeah in more ways than one. It was 38 degrees (103ishF) in Sydney yesterday and it's just spring!

Have a great trip - Sydney is a great place to visit - heaps to see and do - make sure you get out on the harbour. Yes, Melbourne, Adelaide, Queensland etc are all great places too. Once you have been to Aussie you will want to go back.

Ha, ha, yes, I am a Kiwi and no I ain't emigrating! :D

    pick a part? hahahaha

there is an old holden wrecker in the south of Melbourne, in Hastings, and yes, its pick a part, you gotta bring your tools and do it all yourself. Wreckers is called Harveys. Theres another dude in Somerville i think, he's got loads of old gear, but mainly chevs and pontiacs.
Mate, buy the trading post, have a flick through it, bound to be some gear in there, or "Just Parts" mag.
Go to the gold coast, i think you can still rent a hot rod there!
Sydney, hmmmm. Your with the missus, so you gotta do touristy stuff dont you? Just go to the opera house, look around, jump on the ferry to Manly, walk around there, have lunch, take her back on the ferry, should keep her happy for half a day. Then you will get a leave pass for the next day to go hunting for parts.

  23. im not to picky on make and model, i would just like to incorporate an australia based vehicle part into my mercury build. any ideas??
