Ok, I was walking around my friends salvage today and came across this axle. It is 52 1/2" wide and a 3 lug. It is aluminum except for a few parts. Unfortunately it is locked up.
Does anyone know what it is and if it's worth anything other than s****per price for the AL?

    Is it really 3 lugs,or a *******ized 6 lug ?

Can't think of any domestic cars that used 3 lugs.
    Citroen was my first guess.

Any Saab I've seen was front engined.

I think it could be done up as a 6 lug because of those 3 retainer screws. This thing is tiny though, it wouldn't take much abuse.

What about a Renault? Never seen one, but I heard once that they had a 3 lug design.

I'm kind of in a panic right now. My friend is selling his salvage. Come Sept 7th if they start making the payments, he is closing it and crushing everything! I'm trying to make him move all the old iron to a separate place so I can take pics and see if anyone wants it. He will probably be selling stuff off based on weight. He's saving a 51 Chevy for me, I've always wanted to build a g***er...... He quoted a 41 type M Studebaker truck to me for $500. Complete w/ the flathead 6 w/ no parts missing as near as I can tell.

It takes 3 screws to hold the drum on,
but only 3 studs to hold the wheel.

    Gotta be French.

Peugeot? Didn't they run 3 lugs for a while?

Renault is the only one I've seen that consistently used a three lug pattern. Almost all their small cars, not sure about their trucks, but it looks like a truck axle to me.

The salvage has 3 little cars and one "sports car" model. I don't think any were missing rear axles though.
Still a fascinating item, probably not worth anything though. I was curious, never seen anything like it before.....
    thanks
