hell o there fellas! I was hoping someone could shed some light on this prob im havin,or sharing some infoe with me.Have a 54 chevy belair 235,w/dual exhaust. I want opinions on what exhaust setup would make this baby sound kik***? Thanks
1 1/2" - 1 1/4" straight pipes all the way out the back with pencil-tips... doesn't get much cooler than that... I like it on my 235 anyway, nice and loud yet pleasing to the ear... and most none "car" people just stare at you like: or or or and sometimes (or maybe a combination of 'em). -ns
if you want mufflers that rap. the cheap ones are the best. look inside the muffler if it has punched louvers it wont rap. look for one with drilled round holes. like the red cherry bombs at auto zone or checker. this is ***uming you have fentons or split manifold.
If you want it to sound like an Impala then put gl***packs on it, if you want to have the coolest sounding 6 then just put 1 1/2 straight pipes with pencil tips as suggested before.
I ran some 12 inch glaspacs on my wifes 200 cu in Ranchero. With the clifford hedders it sounds almost like a v-8. The local Gestapo pulled me over one night and when he couldn't find anything wrong he asked me to lift the hood. He couldn't believe it was a straight 6.
I know this is a dumb question and I should probably be shot for asking it but what the heck are "pencil tips"???
Skinny like a pencil, not fat like a crayon? Tucked up high and straight out the back (ie no turndown), generally sticking out past the bumper a little. Who called them this and why? Got me.
pencil tips are like puttin a restricter on the end of your exhaust pipe, they are more of a social statement than a hot rod part.why run a 1 1/2 pipe and then put a 1" tip on it.
