What was the least amount of parts that you had to start your rod or project? I'm going to start getting parts together to start a late 20's or 30's project. What body panels are the best to start with?:)

Dude that takes the fun out of it. I think it's funny, but thats why all the rust buckets are so much money, i'm sure u don't wan't to make money when and if u sell your ride.

  8. Whatever parts you find first. A cowl. A frame. A rear body section. Hell, a shift knob even. When the garage is full, time to start ***embling it and figure out what's still missing.

    There's one in every bunch.

Let's see, one was/is being built around a set of side trim. The other was built around a dream... :(

Building one around an engine. Actually, it started as being built around a '57 2x4 283, and is now being built around a 409. It totally changed directions when I found a set of fibergl*** front fenders for it. ('57 Chevy 2dr 150 station wagon)

I always think of potential projects around what engines I could put in them...322 Nailhead, 264 Nailhead, aluminum Slant 6, '57 2x4 283, 354 Hemi, etc. A year ago I had a Max Wedge 2x4 cross ram intake...that's the kind of part you build an entire car around.

It can flow and morph, too: Several years ago I bought a slick-shift Hemi 4spd trans with Chevy bellhousing, clutch and flywheel for a screaming deal. Carried it around for a long time, thinking "some day it'll come in handy." Got the 409 a year later...this is 15 years ago. 10 years ago I got the station wagon...it wasn't until I found the fibergl*** fenders at a swap meet that the lightbulb went off and the car took a hard-core g***er direction. Until those fenders, it was going to be a daily driver/hot rod.
In Michigan, there is a pair of valve covers hanging on a wall that I would also build a car around. If I got those valve covers, all other projects would come to a screaching halt.

My Deuce Fordor started as a single rear door garnish molding.

For about 6 months it was my Deuce Fordor project.... then I found a body.

The body if you're going with a real body--style.
The body is what the frame must be built to carry.

All the rest can be acquired and/or built from scratch but if you want a car with a real "henry" body style, or Chevy body style, etc., always get the body and other sheet metal if necessary first.

Of course, you can acquire a drivetrian (engine, trans, rear) at anytime 'cause they are universal.
