Buddy of mine has a place in Couhuita on the east coast, water is clear, surf is kinda flat, good for spiny lobster..spent my last two trips in the Playa Tambor area on the west coast..surf is much better, water is kinda murky and good for fishing..nice sandy bottoms for us old guys..never saw any old cars..its kinda cool that there isn't much of a Military, but in strategic places like banks, liquor and grocery stores, there are hired dudes, police? militia?
standing around with guns keeping order..some of the largest National Parks anywhere...

I've been there with my girlfriend and can't wait to go back! I loved it!

I've walked the streets at night and didn't worry too much about the locals. I wasn't scared of being attacked at all, lots of pickpocketting though, so be warned.

As for cars, you'd be better served if you were into old 4x4's. As soon as we got out of San Jose, there were Land Cruisers everywhere and lots of vintage Land Rovers too.

As car crazy as I am, I managed to forget about cars and enjoyed the living, beaches, jungle, food, and trying to surf.

If I had too pick a cool set of wheels to use there, it would probably be a dirt bike or a dune buggy!

Thanks for all the help, guys.
