WOW, this is huge. Great letter KIRK! ,as a retailer I would be very bummed out that the local Govt. decided to cancel something that injects 1000's if not millions into the local economy. Santa Maria is a great choice, Im surprised the WCK didnt look into Morro Bay as a potetial site(lots of motels, food, etc.) Is it possible as a group to police ourselves so this kind of thing with the "show" being tossed out of town doesnt happen again?( I know the answer, I was just hoping) Once again. well done KIRK.

I can't say I am surprised. I see some pretty uncivil things said on this message board. If there was problem behavor taking place at Paso I can understand the city reacting. Have you ever been in Myrtle Beach during Black Bike Week? Many businesses simply shut down to avoid the trouble it causes.

  8. This is my letter to Paso

Good luck trying to duplicate the revenue our show provides the small businesses of your town. I'm sure it'll crush a reasonable amount of your Ma/Pa type places that make small town America great. I've really grown to like the people of Paso that I've had the pleasure to know through my attendance at this show. I've talked to some at length about the move. It pained me to learn how adversely they feel this will affect them. John Randazzo

Here's mine - sent to the Council and the Chamber:
To those who may have any concern,

I've just learned that the West Coast Custom's annual Memorial weekend car show has now moved on to a new venue in Santa Maria.

The reasons the show's organizers have given for their decision seem to be that the City of Paso Robles has, a**** other things, decided to request a limit to the number of show entries to 500 (previously 800), and also to request that cars that are in primer will no longer be allowed. Obviously requesting "no primer" is an attempt by the city to limit the rif-raf? Well, I for one do drive a car that is still in primer, and being an upstanding citizen with no history of being a trouble-maker of any sort, find this to be a random judgement and very disturbing. Does the city view me as unwanted simply because my car is in-progress and is not yet shinny enough for you?

It seems apparent that the city just does not value our patronage any longer.

I have been coming to your town every Memorial weekend for this long-standing show and regularly been dropping over $1,000 into your city's businesses each and every one of the 10 years I have attended. But I guess I am no longer welcome?

When I cancel my reservations for my $260 per night x3 night min. room, I will be sure to tell them to thank their city leaders for helping to run the show right out of town and I will be sure to steer well clear of any of your town's businesses as I drive past on my way to the show's new venue in Santa Maria.

    Sincerely,

I've been to WCK Paso (member#139) starting in 1983 out at the old Sherwood Park and when the city wanted more of the action we moved to down town and that's when the city started pushing us around. I know Rich and Penny worked like crazy trying to keep it in their control and little by little the city pushed their way in and WCK out.
These people, Rich, Penny and all the "Pink Shirts" need a round of applause for giving us a Great Show year after year from the very get go. Thank You guys for giving us 25 plus years of fellowship and fun. I'm looking forward to another 25 plus years of KUSTOM & HOT ROD fellowship and fun in Santa Maria.

I sorta lied just a bit about the part of "no history of being a trouble maker"...but it wasn't in THEIR town so I think it still fits ;)

Well that's a bummer about the show moving. But then again I have never experienced Paso. I was trying to go this year, but couldn't swing it. I am glad I missed out on the price gouging thou! Maybe moving the show the prices for hotels and etc could be less?

They dont realize what the show brings them the rest of the year! I started buying company trucks about 12 years ago in paso just so I had an excuse to go down another time of the year, I talked to my friend today, I think he is a rotary club member as well. he knew nothing about it and was shocked, and bummed.

  15. No, but I think they'll realize it soon, but too late. I'm looking forward to the new adventure, but i'm sure gonna miss the whole vibe of Paso. We'll just make this new one Stugatz, that's Italian for "the ****"

Well, its time to move on. I think Paso was losing its appeal, at least to me , from how it was 15 years ago. I agree with Kirk, I enjoyed the show more when the older groups were the majority. There the only ones I hang with anyways. Good riddance to Paso, welcome Santa Maria!!

I've never been there, but Broadway in front of the fair looks bumper to bumper on Google, while everywhere else seems to flow in the shot. Wierd...

OK. this may sound dumb, but when did this become public knowledge? Heard rumors for a few years, but, well, there are always rumors.......I have looked at the West Coast Kustoms website and don't see anything.

How, where do we get the scoop on where the "New Paso" is going to be?

    And what the F*&K happened?

KIRK! That was well put and very nice, you must write pretty often huh? oh wait a minute!

Do you have an actual address to someone "big" in the town? I want to write a letter, a hand written letter, because I think they would have a better chance of reading it. But if anyone has an adress I can write to and send them a well thought out letter please post it up!!

Sad to see it go but like KIRK! said time for a change and **** 'em if they don't want us there!!

Wait till the city councel has to hear from the people of Paso Robles who did enjoy the show, look at how many people would show up just to watch the cruz. The businesses around the park weren't complaining, I'm sure they will now. **** em' lets all go to "Maria"!

The chamber of commerce and the downtown merchants ***ociation were both supportive of the event. But they were powerless to stop what happened. Many on the CofC have called to say they are sorry to see it go.

Unsubstantiated rumors have it that they have already talked to the guy who puts on the Pebble Beach Concourse.
Seems they have their own idea of what a car show should look like.
Lots of brie cheese, Starbucks, and cellphones.

  29. All I know is, that I'm glad I attended the "last" Paso show, but now, I am glad to move on. If they don't want us, they can't have us.
    Santa Maria here we come.

  30. Yeah, i heard you almost missed that one. hahaha
