This may have been covered in another thread, but I didn't see anything anywhere, so pardon me in advance if it has already been discussed. I need to replace the stock tank on my shoebox and was thinking of going with a spun aluminum tank or fuel cell mounted in the trunk instead of another stock one. Any suggestions, pros/cons for this setup? If anyone has done this and has pics I would appreciate it as well. I know this is pretty vague, but I'm really open to any suggestions. Thanks!

I used a 66 Mustang tank in my Stude and Merc. Should work in your box too.

You have to cut a hole in your trunk floor for the sump of the tank, but the tank bolts flush to your floorboard. Works kind of slick actually.

The best part? Brand new 16 gallon tank with drain, 69 dollars from Partstrain.

    Good luck, -Abone.

Here's a ****py pic. There are a bunch of 1/4 bolts that go around the perimiter that bolt the tank to your floorboard.

You might want to check with your DMV regs. Some states count the trunk as part of the p***enger area and won't let you mount a tank there unless it was original equipment.Just a thought.

I bought a brand stinking new steel one for my 49 chevy. dropped right into place with no problem. I bet they make one for a shoebox too.

Yeah...they do, but it is like $325 + shipping. Trying to get out a bit cheaper and also shave off the gas door.
