Hi guys looks like I have found my engine (392) and would like some advice re trans adaptors and trans. The motor will end up blown and will see predominantly street and some regular strip use. Im looking for some advice on what sort of trans to run and adaptors to do it, preference is to go with an auto. Thanks.

You might want to consider a JW Ultrabell.

I used the Hot Heads adapter with a 700R4 (I wanted the overdrive for hi-way). I picked the adapter with the starter on the p***enger side, so I wouldn't have any steering clearance problems. Since I use a remote oil filter, it's not a problem. I don't think it would be a problem for any oil filter setup. Used a mini-torque starter.

The adapter is pretty generic, so I traced the outline of the block on one side, and the ****** on the other side, and then used a band-saw to trim it down.

I also had to drill-out the aluminum crank spacer (simple). Hot Heads sends you bolts and nuts, and we tapped my crank for just grade-8 bolts. Had to use some 1/4" washers (on the torque converter side) to space the torque-converter. It seemed like it was going to be too far forward, and I was worried about it not engaging the pump properly.

This was one of my mini-disasters, as I originally got the wrong spacer, and my starter wouldn't reach the ring gear. Sort of my own damned fault for not checking it when it was out of the car. But it was also good, because I found out some aspects of my frame that really ****. Like not being able to pull the ****** very far back. Frames with removable transmission mounts are "so" right!

As a guy who has to shift all day in my mini-truck, coming home to an automatic is right up my alley.

I went with the Hot heads adapter for a th-350. Starter on the p***enger side with a front pointing oil filter adapter that clears my lakes style pipes. I had a problem with starter engagment and ended up boreing our on of the threaded starter mount hols so I could rotate the starter a little. The Starter gear was smacking the side of the ring gear. Bob at Hot heads offered to send me a new one but I already had the car 90% together and didnt want to take the motor and ****** back out. In the ****** I have a trans-go shift kit and 3500 stall (1800lb car) and she snaps hard and doesnt rpm up on the highway....about 2900 rpm at 70.

I used the PAW adapter which came with the project I bought. They are a little pricey when you get the complete kit with everything you need including a mini starter. The crank holes need to be tapped but everything else just bolted in. There is a spacer ring that slips into the crank end to position the torque convertor properly. I used the one for a turbo 400 short tail trans to get the room I needed and to handle the torque from the engine. I attached a couple pics for you.

WOW !!! You guys are HOT RODDER'S ? Every one with a hemi & automatic transmissions ........Veeery Nice !!!

I used a 1955 Dodge truck bell housing, the one with the T/O bearing cross shaft built right in, Work great for making your clutch linkage.

Machined the Trans mounting face, Bolted a Plate to the facethat had been bored for the Bearing snout... Figured the inputshaft length & the machined the new plate for a perfect fit.

Now i have a A~833 Chrysler 4spd mated up to my '56 DeSoto, there were a few small things other than the quick list i posted like a bushing inside the '55 Dodge throw out bearing ***y.

But i figured, Not man Hot Rodders here wann run an old trans like this..... Appears that Automatics are the norm

bummer shifting a mini-truck spoils the experience of shifting a blown 392 hemi.

Try the Wilcap site. They have adapters for any Hemi/trans combo. Stickshift for the manly men, and automatics for the metro***uals out there. :)

That's very similar to what I run. Old dodge bell, adapter plate, A833 O/D trans. I did blow up a pressure plate and ventilate a bell... ok and destroyed a number of other things. I've got a band of 1/4 steel over the sweet spot now. Ran a 12.10 last weekend.

" and automatics for the metro***uals out there. :)" Thats a little mean.... I like both but the price difference between a th350 and a super t10 pushed me toward auto, $250 compaired to $600 just for the trans no clutch etc.
Is a Jeraco a manual or auto that you shift?
