49 or 50 v8 flathead Ford in a pickup, no hood for years, missing one head and someone recently stole the intake. It's still bolted to the ****** too. I don't know them, so it may be missing more parts. Could anything be of value on this? I bet it's set in the rain for 10 years w/ a couple valves open. I know it has water in it. BTW the body and bed are in decent shape. I'm scrambling to find the old parts before my friend starts crushing next week. He has 4 months of crushing, so I have some time.
I'd bet the engine is a boat anchor. If water entered the engine and then froze, Id guess it has plenty of cracks. The pickup body is another story.
Does it freeze in Colorado? The block is probably cracked, but it's worth checking. Does the cab have the chrome trim around the windshield? I'd buy it if it does. Also, I'd like the steering sector and backing plates if poss. Thanks. Gary
We talked about the cracking possibility. So if it isn't cracked, then what? A flathead has the allure like a woman in a tent waiving you in and not knowing what she looks like.... No chrome-no windshield. I'll check on the rest of the parts when I get back up there this week. I think the body was nice enough that I may get the whole thing off him. I'm rebuilding an old 18' 5th wheel trailer, so that will give me some options now.
HAHAHA.....That's a good ****ogy, I not only jumped into the tent, I shelled out enough cash for 4 women.... I took mine straight to the machine shop to have it magnafluxed, then started buying parts and replaced everything except the crank. Expensive, but it makes for a good motor. I also spent some money on machine work such as a valve relief job for better airflow, we balanced the rotating parts, etc. Then get a hold of Duane Skarbic (a HAMBer by the name of Stromberg98) and have build a carb setup for you:
I would probally turn and run from that one. Maybe if you got it you could stick it in your grandma's flower bed or somehting, other than that, its a boat anchor
But, but, but That would mean I actually had to come up with cash.... I'm a cheap SOB, I can build something, but you could hear the whine in Australia if I had to buy something built. Buying parts is one thing, but, to learn how to build it is my quest in life. Actually, I'm about out of cash right now, I've been buying shop tools and still need to get a plasma cutter this month = no money.... I will check it out though, you never know. PS I just read your for sale post. Sorry to hear about your mother, I wish I could help. As for the stroke, I would probably have a stroke trying to get it to turn over..... I'm going to get it anyway just to see what it's like inside (if I can even get it apart). Like I said, I have seen one before and just taking it down will be fun. ***uming my bud doesn't try to charge me for it. I just remembered I think it had F2 on the side, w/ 8 lug axles.
