Hmmmm.... sounds really sad, Axle... :(

Of course, on this board almost everyone see the music as a "compliment"
to the car show, but the music folks see it vice versa. I am both kinds, so I
believe they stick together. It is very important to understand that it is not
just to put on a new car show and bring on "a few bands". That is what most
car shows are anyway. The VLV line-up has been one of the top line-ups in
bringing old stars and new popular bands together. There are a few of these
music-weekenders around the globe, but NO ONE has the same incredible car
show like Vegas. And that is ONLY because of the Shifters fabulous efforts.
And the crowds from all over the globe have loved it!

I had the great opportunity to play there three times (-99, -01, -04) and
truly enjoyed the success of the car show. But, as always, when something
grows much bigger, you have to set up rules that wasn't necessary when it
was a small event and everybody watched out for each other and took care
of their "too drunk" friends. And those new rules are, sad enough, for the old
crowd too. What you could do with 75 cars around and compare it to 500
cars and people everywhere, is a big difference. Burn-outs etc...

I am also one of the organisers to the hot rod and kustom weekend that
maybe have the strictest rules anywhere. The A-BOMBERS OLD STYLE
WEEKEND in Sweden. No cars or bikes after 1956 model and ONLY American
1930's-50's style with wheel set-ups and all. That is one hell of a job and you
can count on all that shit we get for not letting people go to the inner area
with their cars. Maybe after driving from south of Europe and have billet
wheels on you -55 Chevy.... You get the picture. But if you let one go,
EVERYONE else will complain why THEY can't do the same.

Our event is not just happening during one day. It is going on for more than
48 hours around the clock and we prefer not to involve the police in our
parties. That leaves a lot of responsibilty to each and every one that attends
the event and also to their friends. Otherwise the whole event can be lost.
Now we seen it happen twice in a week, regarding to Paso and VLV. Sad...

Hope Santa Maria will work fine and that the Shifters can get a good show
going in Vegas for next year.

Hey Axle, remember this? Me and Mark in that VERY tight little hot rod after
you got caught by the Gold Coast security for losing a hubcap while
doing a burn-out, ha ha.... And how lucky it was that you didn't get hurt
when your -32 went bezerk and almost ran over the top floor! My A-V8
Boogie record still laying in the seat... :D That was 1999. Love you, bro!

Route 66 takeover happening all over again..Tom,the people who pay to enter thier vehicles in the car show, are they going to have to pay to attend the shows too???Or do they get wristbands for the shows,or if they pay for the shows,do they get free entrance for thier vehicle in the car show??If not, that makes you a money hungry shitbag...Go hang out with Boyd, you two could wank each other over a high priced shitbucket that's niether hot,nor a rod...

  8. In the battle of the promoters, who will get the drunks?
When you see shows being shut down, it's the drunks.
    It's about the drunks, stupid.
60 years ago, it was about the drunks.
You cannot turn control of your show to the drunks.

Most of the drunks came from the show, where the alcohol was most abundant,so guess who's getting the drunks..That's right!!Tom,have fun with Viva Lush Vegas, while the car guys go somewhere where rods and customs can be enjoyed...

    Hi Axle,

Sorry to hear that it didn't work out. I've enjoyed bringing the Big John Mazmanian and Bad News Travels Fast Willys coupes to the event. It's been way cool. I was just thinking the other day, What GASSER will I bring to VLV 11?

In 2004, I brought my Canon XL-1 to my first VLV to get some video 'reference' footage for a hot rod movie script I was working on at the time. I had no idea the footage would end up on the History Channel, in film festivals and become the 'official VLV' DVD. It's been a total blast.

Thanks for all you've done. Change is a part of life. It isn't always welcomed but it may turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to us.

Best of luck to you in your adventures!

Headed this week to my GASSER Nationals (Sept 8-9) at Thompson Raceway Park, Thompson, Ohio.

Yup, it was outstanding, freezing cold and high winds, I actually didn't see it, but I sure as hell heard it, the wife saw it.

I'm only saying it was outstanding now because the car's back and no one got hurt, but at the time it was tragic.

The same year I saw a very drunk Marky take one step into the ballroom and puke his guts.

someones gotta be a dick and i guess its gotta be me as far as the show went i liked it but hated whatever process was used for letting cars in I could never get my 67 or 64 galaxie in and that was cool nothing after 63 I am fine with that but every damn year there are always plenty of post 63 cars and plenty of 64 galaxies this last year there was a 67 Galaxie that looked exactly like min so yeah if your going to move it and work on the quality of the cars that attened more power to ya I know the pantera show is held over at the new orleans maybe they would be willing?

seriously, you guys(The Shifters) are a bunch of f*cking sissies. get over it. don't know why you take shit like this personal...THIS has NOTHING to do with traditional car building or REAL car clubs.
THIS is the reason why i think car clubs are gay. very very gay. you guys take it too far.
sorry, but i just get tired of the retarded "West Coast attitude".
just like the stupid ass "fight" last year...try that shit in Texas....you'll just get put in your place....or shot.
have a nice day. get over it.
