Hey guys my girlfriend has a 63 Mercury Comet that needs a water pump but I can't for the life of me figure out if it's a 144 or a 170. I've searched the internet as well as this forum but can't find anything, can somebody give me a hand?

The casting on the driver's side of the engine block is C3DE-6015-E and the warranty number is 3J01U509365.

    Thanks

    Travis

It shouldn't matter. I'm pretty sure the water pumps are the same for the 144 or 170. If its a 63 , odds are its a 170

O'Reilly's Auto Parts shows part number 58-204 for a rebuilt pump for either engine.

engine code is stamped above the crankcase vent outlet pipe. S is 144, U is 170
