I am working on a 49 fleetline, I have cut the stering shaft down so I can use a newer colum, I want to use a sealed bearing where the shaft goes into the stering box housing. Does anyone know of a good place to get sealed bearings. The local parts places where no help. Thanks.

  2. Just a suggestion, take the one out of the top of the old column and put it in there. I did that with a 53, should be about the same.

they have a lot of different stuff, but if you know what you need they might be the cheapest.

Most cities of any size have a local Bearing & Seal Supply House.
They can measure your old bearing and get a match for you UNLESS it is a proprietary bearing which means only available from the seller of the merchandise you're repairing.

Cool thanks for the info. Yea Im in Iraq, 2 months to go then I can work on my car again. Just trying to do a little research to speed the process. Once again thanks

  10. I'm using the shaft from a 50 Chevy car in a custom steering column for my 29 Tudor. I'm using a lawn mower deck sealed ball bearing, has 3/4" ID. It fits into a housing made from a turned piece of heavy wall tubing, held with snap rings.
Be safe over there, we are proud of y'all!

When you get home try any local bearing house. Just give them the deminsions of what you are looking for and they should be able to match it up for you.

Is the mast tubing 1.5 in? I will send you a bearing if it is. God speed.
