I'm working on the same stuff right now. Speedway measures there driveshafts center of the u-joint to Center of the u-joint... I think.
You've gotta have the car at regular ride height - not up on blocks or a jack. If there's a yoke on the back of your tranny, measure from the center of the tranny yoke U-joint to the center of the axle yoke U-joint. I usually orient the yokes so the U-joint caps would be horizontal. If there's a slip yoke on the back of your tranny, measure from the center of the rear axle yoke U-joint to the end of the tranny shaft and also to the seal surface. That should give your driveshaft guy all the info he needs. Don't forget to tell him how you measured when you order your shaft.
