Weve touched on this in the past, but a few more vintage commercials have hit youtube since and I thought the video above... To read the rest of this entry on The Jalopy Journal, click here.
Cool. Thanks for sharing this. It made for some great entertainment over lunch. The only one I remember seeing as a kid was the driving instructor. "Look out for the bus!" "What bus?". It was funny then and funny now.
These are rad. I wish there was a way to Download this film. The Dodge and plymouth commercials are comedy. Just looking at the new cars makes me tingle up my spine. Where can I get some of those 'Lifegaurd Safety Spares'
Really cool, thanks. Brings back a lot of memories, and some things I dont remember at all. Had a 57 plymouth in 61, couldn't find the air in the torsion air ride. Had never seen the plymouth swing out seat before, or the horn button shifter on the edsel. Looked like Mel Torme with McClain Stevensen in the 56 ford commercials. And I've never used elegant and Edsel in the same sentence. Thanks Ryan
My favorite line... "History will prove that the '58 edsel is the most beautiful convertible in the world."
Ya gotta wonder who has these old clips, it's a real treat that they took the time to somehow stuff these things on YouTube. I don't know what I like better, the old car bits, or the old 1960's school films we watched as kids. (anyone remember the toy Indian in the canoe in the river?)
Here's a very early Ford Dealership commercial. This is wayyy pre television. This was made to be shown in theaters. Just think of how progressive this dealer was for the time----1932!! <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jNAele2PHZc"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jNAele2PHZc" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
There is a way to save YouTube stuff on your computer. There are many sites like this: http://keepvid.com/ They save the movie as an flv file, you will need a player for the flv files. I like VLC (www.videolan.org/vlc). Hope this helps.
Ryan, thanks for the link ... ...A lot of these old commercials seem to disappear soon after being posted on youtube . So snag them now if you have the chance. I went threw Youtube Last Year and collected a whack of good black and white commercials, many of which I Posted on my Website... There are about 50 Here.... (some of the vids may be gone by now but many are still up) There may be the odd comedy bit throw in for good measure, some may not be office safe (Language) but for the most part, It's Ford. Plymouth and Chevy Commercials and Promotionals.... BTW, I couldn't help but notice that the third commercial on your link is for a 57 Belvedere (Tulsa Buried Car) and Man do Those brakes Ever make Noise When they Are pulling Up to The Soda Shop... moe .
I love this one: http://www.mypublicprofile.com/media/fresh99/dodgechargercommercial.mpg ---- www.walkharder.com
every now and then they show "you bet your life" on public tv. And the on air comercials they do are great. its all Plymouth and Desoto since they sponsored the show i guess. but there great!
Those old commercials bring back some painful memories. My Uncle Fred lost his life in the Lawrence Welk 30 Day Dodge Selling Spree of 1957. They saw him coming and they laid him away.
That "AMC Rebel / Driving Instructor" Ad was hilarious ... the boss caught me on the H.A.M.B. 'cuz of all the laughter coming out of my cubicle ... oh well ... back to work
I dig William Holden smoking a butt like it was weed while saying Ford Has Changed. Oh has it really? I believe you Bill, I believe!!
I thought the "run flats" on my wife's car were new tech. I guess I was wrong, Goodyear has had the idea out for 50+ years! Too cool.
