Paso (Santa Maria) question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Groucho, Sep 4, 2007.

  1. In Motel 6 we hung out this past weekend for the Primer Nats. On nite 2, as quiet as we were, the manager said we have to go to our rooms at 10PM because we were disturbing the "other" guests. In Paso, there were no "other" guests to bother. Hanging out at the Motels after the show is a large part of the weekend to me. This past weekend I was hanging out with Goozgaz, and Lownslow, as well as with Poncho and Barret-Jackson from Canada, but never saw them at the actual show. This is a very important part of these weekends to me. I wonder what's gonna happen in Santa Maria when we all find ourselves in the position we were in last weekend? Any thoughts?

  2. Im with ya on that one. When i was in Paso i met a guy in the parking lot that gave me some 151 I went back to my room passed out and ended up pissin in the garbage can in the middle of the night. A memory i will not forget ..thanks to the guy in the parking lot. The Ramada in Antioch i very fun place. The hotels are like mini car shows.

    pre concieved notions.........

i say wait and see, my money sez it will be the first year and the town goes out of its way to make us comfortable

  8. Motel six is not a bar where you party and piss everybody else off. There are a lot of bars in Santa Maria and the exspensive hotels all have bars go there. I like to party to but at ten I figure the other people there might want to sleep that's what they paid for. So why not be a little more attentive to others and not such a pain in the ass. Rags

Groucho, I think the wait and see method works best as far as the Motel 6 goes ! I saw your Coupe for the first time this week-end and that paint is really something, it's beautiful !

I can see it happening all over again and it hasn't even got started yet. I guess we'll just go town to town every year.

Yea, I hate people who think a motel parking lot is where you're supposed to laugh and yell. It's where you sleep. If you want to party, or even bullshit until 6am, go to a coffee house, the park, a gas station--anywhere. STFU!

Not to start our shit up again but if the manager came by, it's probably because you weren't as quiet as you thought you were:D , and somebody complained.
Take it to a bar, coffee shop, or empty parking lot someplace. Let sleeping dogs lie.

Geez, you must live a charmed life if you have never been told to keep it quiet at a motel, apartment, etc. Not likely that some punks stayed there before and made lots of noise and ruined it for anyone else staying there after them. Now lets raise some hysteria that no one will be able to visit at any motels in Santa Maria. Also, bet that you have never been bothered by someone else making too much noise at a place you have stayed at. Oh ya, and lets brag how you piss in trash cans, boy what fun. Show Santa Maria folks some class.

I dont know about that. I live in Lompoc which is right next to Santa Maria and they have never been easy on anyone. There are to many gang bangers and lowriders in that town that I think it will corrupt the very spirit of Paso. The Beauty of Paso was that the main carshow wasnt actually the carshow itself but all the side streets and the after parties that made Paso what it was.

I was out there on in the parking lot with Groucho. It had nothing to do with noise... and the hotel manager was really very nice. It was just their policy.

Yeah... for those of you who think Santa Maria is going to welcome with open arms I cant wait to see the look on your face when you learn the truth. Its goin to be an experience none the less. Not a good one Im gonna guess.

I dont know why everyone has to talk trash about Santa Maria. Sure, every town has its problems, but it is no reason to label Santa Maria as a gang infested slum that will potentially "corrupt" the show.

Im sure any of you would feel the same way if the same lies were being told about your town.

Santa Maria is labeled that way cause its true. Not even to be slightly compared with any problems in Paso. This situation sucks. Be optomistic all you want. Im tryn to think about anything that might shine some good light on this, but I cant. Only time will tell, but the locals know best.

Dont get me wrong, I have been to some awsome lowrider shows in Santa Maria. Length of Braodway was Bumper to Bumper. Quite the experience.

A big excuse Paso City Council is giving is that there was too much violence. Had been escalating every year for a few years now. (Supposedly)

They (Santa Maria PD) seemed to keep most of the violence at those shows on the DownLow, out of the publics ear, but I sure havnt been to a good lowrider show in Santa Maria for awhile. Now why might that be? Now how do we expect to keep the peace in Santa Maria? We cant even keep from fighting ourselves.

Well I go to car shows for the cars.
If my dumb ass has to get up at 5 in the morning to let your loud partying ass in the gate, you best hope I don't recognize you or your car if you kept me up half the night with your noise. ;)

  23. I think we have all listened to people who want to party all night in motels all across America. It is not a good time.
    It is in fact, inconsiderate.

  24. I'm 52 and really enjoy hanging with new friends that i only get to see that once in a year after the show at the motel. I hope I never get as old as some of the geezers that have posted here. I'm not the one that breaks beer bottles on my helmeted head near the show cars in the motel lot or pisses in trash cans (previously admitted by other HAMBers). There are most of us that just enjoy hanging outdoors in the nice summer nights instead of going to our rooms at 9 PM just to get OLDER! Just cause we hang out past 10 PM socializing does NOT mean we're creating havoc. I stay at the busiest motel in Paso as far as night life, and have gotten to know the owner good enough for him to cook me dinner and invite me to eat with his friends(other motel owners), and he's NEVER complained to me and my friends, NEVER!

Im not saying everyone in Santa Maria is like that and I have seen some really good custom sleds come outta there. In fact my buddies in the Headhunters car club always have really nice sleds. Its just that everytime I have ever gone to Santa Maria for a cruise or show there are always cops busting people that are always up to no good and its gonna bring the morals of Paso down.

This debate is going to go on and on..and the argument could be made that I am adding to it.

    Obviously.

Anyway, my $.02...Paso was Paso, and it's a great memory. Unfortunately, it's over. Done, move on.

Now, will Santa Maria be Paso? No, it will be Santa Maria.

It will come with it's own stories and heroes and dipshits. The emphasis being "stories and heroes and dipshits", which is really about the people.

Can Santa Maria be great? Sure! Can it be a bust? Sure! It's all gonna be about the people, and how they act.

Bottom line, it's the show. It's the people, and the cars. Paso was a great physical location, to be sure, but Santa Maria is certainly adequate.

So, we are 9 months away from bringing the best show in the country to a new venue, and we are worried about whether or not non-car-related guests in the motel are gonna be bagging on us?

Gee...we COULD think that we have a corporate objective to make this the best weekend on Santa Marias calendar, instead of worrying about whether or not the "squares" will understand how important it is that we be allowed to pee in the parking lot...

...or we could be worrying about whether or nor we will be able to pee in the parking lot without undue hassles.

How important IS it that we engage in public urination (which is a euphemism for generally bad behavior)? My guess? Not all that important.

We have 9 months. Build the car, make the reservation, fly in from Finland, do whatever you need to do. Arrive with an open mind. Act adult, and consider yourself fortunate that people have done a LOT of hard work to make this happen.

Have fun. Be respectful of the tradition, and those around you, car people or otherwise.

And pee before you leave the house.

well said Dolla...I liked Paso last year the best. I slept at a quiet hotel, but drank like a fish at the "loud" hotel. The loud hotels are the best, but when you go into shutdown mode, you just need a quiet place to lay down.

  28. Very well said Bill. I also have to side with those that say go to a bar, park, haunted house, anywhere but the hotel parking lot. Not everyone wants to hear you laughing and talking all night, not to mention that if you're in the parking lot, that's one more reason to worry about my car (not directed to anyone in particular, just people in general)

  29. As Groucho said, I am an old geezer, because I like to sleep when I pay my money.
It doesn't matter though, because the loudest mouth will always win. He will party and everyone will listen to him, old geezer or not.

  30. Well, like i said, not everyone who likes to enjoy a few beers with his long distance friends in the safety of their motel lot is a trouble maker. It's better than drinking and driving to and from the other places suggested here. Last weekend we asked the manager to extend the 10PM thing, he recognized we weren't bothering anyone, and he gave us an xtra hour. As it turned out, all of us were ready to turn in at 10 minutes BEFORE 11. But, it was nice to have the option. Not everyone that enjoys hanging out is a trouble maker
