    I have a 1956 Lincoln looking for some help on adjusting the valves. I know that with other cars you can put them at tdc on # 1 and in the case of this engine it would be #6 and adjust certain valves. Anyone know of this shortcut on this engine or am I stuck just rotating away and watching valves and adjusting? Also I think it's supposed to be zero lash due to it being hydraulic lifters is that correct?

    i'm having problems with using my scanner (stupid Windows Vista :mad: ) so i'll just have to type this out from my Motor's Manual...

    i'd like to add,if you have noisy hydraulic lifters it's more likely (in my experience) that they are gummed up,than that they went out of adjustment.

    you should try adding a bottle of Rislone to your oil and running it for awhile to see if it clears up the noise.

    "take off the distributor cap and turn the engine until the rotor is at the firing position for No.1 cylinder.
    when this is done the following valves will be fully closed and therefore, can be adjusted:
    No.1 in. & ex.
    No.2 in. & ex.
    No.5 in. & ex.
    No.4 exhaust; No.7 intake

    after setting up the above valves, turn the engine so the rotor is at the firng position for No.6 cylinder.
    then the rest of the valves can be adjusted;
    No.3 in & ex.
    No.6 in & ex.
    No.8 in. & ex.
    No.4 intake; No.7 exhaust

    to make the adjustment, turn the adjusting screwn clockwise while moving the pushrod up and down until all slack is removed (do not force the hydraulic plunger down into the lifter body) after removing all slack, turn the adjusting screw an additional 2 turns for 1952-53 and 2 1/2 turns on 1954-57.
    hold the adjusting screw and tighten the locknut.
    if any lifter is noisy during subsequent operation, the adjustment may be varied by turning the adjusting screw an additional 1/4 turn from the two-turn setting on 1952-53 qand 1/2 turn on 1954-57."

    Cool thanks. That helps a bunch. There is supposed to be a bent pushrod or two according to the old owner. Sounds like it. Hoping to get this thing going well enough to make it to billit proof Good thing antiochs only a couple miles away. I don't have any road time on this thing yet, and have a bunch of **** to do before.
