I like model cars mostly KUSTOMS because I can't afford to buy all the one's I'd like to have for real. I also do s**** books of verious cars, trucks, travel trailers, and professional vehicles.
You are right!! a few weeks ago.. LINK: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=198526&highlight=other+stuff+you+collect
I've got a bunch of old parts, but very little in what you could specifically call art. I've got plenty of old valve covers hanging around, tired old street signs, A few odd speed parts, an old dashboard, radiator shell's etc. There's plenty of art I like, I just prefer parts. In my minds eye it's art of a sort. Oh yeah, the one piece of real art I have in the shop is a piece of pinstriping done by RJB. It sit's by my pinstriping practice gl*** for motivation to prove it can be done.

A few of mine are: 1. A 29ct/gal gas sign 2. Oval Pennzoil sign 3. A tin dog from the side of a 50s Greyhound bus 4. Complete 56 Packard taillights (real automotive art IMO) 5. Harley Davidson sign 6. A 49 Chevy license guard 7. Regular and Ethyl 50s handlettered gl*** gas pump signs 8. 95% of all R&C, Car Craft, Custom Cars, & Hot Rod magazine issues
It sounds like you are planning to do some marketing. The guys here are mostly rod and custom guys as opposed to the restoration/muscle crowd who want to see factory original stuff. For my part the car alone is what matters in a drawing. The historical scene stuff is nice but I'd prefer the nostalgia details be left out. As an art form, cars combine sculpture, paint and mechanics so for me its all about the car itself. With all due respect to the flames, scallops, and lace devotees, I draw the line after subtle pinstriping accents. I just don't believe in using body panels as a canvas because it detracts from the inherent beauty of the vehicle underneath. Less is more in my book.
Any cool car book old or new, coffee table or technical, hardcover or soft. Someday hope to have a small wall that's covered in nothing but automotive books. Got a long way to go.
Do any of your wives wish your "room"or little "area" was at another address? Hey-Dont even ask me about that-.... It wouldnt be mine ,ya know!
I buy a lot of old models, some diecast cars, some dealer promo models, some old magazines, and a few repop tin signs. Keeps me busy in the winter, which can last up to 7 mo. in upstste NY!!
