I've been looking for a tri-five Chevy. The only thing I ask is that the body is in decent (not great) condition, and that the car starts. Doesn't have to be mechanically sound. Would just like to drive it home. The drivetrain will mostly be replaced. I would do a mild gasser type rod with quite a bit of power under the hood. Flat black, jacked up stance, the whole deal. I would think that the base tri-five wouldn't be too much, but it seems like for a less then decent '55 - '57 Chevy it's more then $5000 to pick one up. I was thinking more the 2k to 3.5k range.

I've always been really into the '80s Cadillacs (the boxy, rwd ones... late '70s Devilles and '80s Broughams). I know I'll probably get some bitching on this, but I think it would be awesome to do something like the above plan to one of these Caddys. Big slicks in the rear, straight axle, carburetted 350 sbc, headers coming out the front wheel wells, flat black, maybe some outlined flames on the front. More or less something like that. ....and the beauty of one of these Cadillacs is that they are pretty common, and pretty cheap. Could pick up a clean body and running version for about $2k easily. My vision of this Cadillac would be an end result where people, including probably a lot of you here, would just say "what the f*** did he do to that car". It would be.... out there. But I think it would be tight. Definitely different. The only thing that would bother me about the fabrication is that I'd have a 4-speed in there, and that would probably be a pain in the ass getting the third pedal and the trans linkage through the floorboards lined up. But that would be the case with an auto tri-five too.

    What do you think??

Every thread you start is a mess. First about putting wide whitewalls and flat black on a minivan, now a straight axle gasser 80s Caddy.

Id suggest maybe just reading a little more here, starting threads a little less.

Really? I don't remember asking for a bunch of Cadillac fans to start flocking. Maybe just some car guys that have a few ideas on something different.

But hey thats cool just keep giving negative feedback... thats exactly what I was looking for

Seems nobody is going to jump in and post a pic of theirs. Surprised. Sounded so cool.

Before this gets deleted like the waste of bandwith it is...

Shiftonthefly1 here in NJ has a nice 58 Chevy for sale in your price range, Jersey shore area. Look him up. 4 door, but runner as is and doesnt look bad. It will keep you busy instead of starting worthless threads like this and whether to pay the mortgage or buy kustom tyrez for yer minivan.

Ontop of that I can hook you up with a 4 bolt complete 350 carb to pan on the cheap.

So, think it over. Check em out...

I painted an old Astro Van flat Black and put a set of used Vogue whiewalls on it with some Eldorado fake wire wheel hubcaps... FOR A JOKE!
A friend even put some CAddy emblems and crests over the Bowties and a "Brougham" badge on the rear pillar...
    Guess what.
I saw another one a few months later in town done the same way!

I saw alate 70's early 80's Coupe Deville all Blacked out. Full skirts, Black tires, dark tint windows, Black painted "standard" Caddy hubcaps B'acked out grill and bumpers.
Looked sinister like one of them all Black movie villian cars.
    Looked Bitchin too.
    For what it was.

Go ahead and do it, just don't post pics of it and ask "what ya think?" because a lot of tunnel visioned people will tell ya what they think.

I still envision the Italian Stallion in a '78 Trans Am...
With a condom dispenser on the console... ;)

instead of wasting your money on your caddy idea, just give it to me and ill waste it on getting my 31 done. xoxo.

  16. You can buy a halfway solid 55-57 project car on the east coast for $1500-$3000. If you look real hard, sometimes for as little as $500 (I personally know of a pretty solid '56 sedan delivery that sold for that a while back.. decent body, came with the patch panels it needed, no motor or trans). We've sold '57 tudors for $1500. My buddy has a '55 150 wagon that he's asking like $2500 on. But you sure won't drive it home... and why the hell does it matter if you're putting another drivetrain in it? if you're doing that much work, they make enough panels for these cars all you really need is a roof and a cowl top, what the hell is a replacement panel or two? I mean, you're dealing with one of the most popular car types on the planet.. and you're in the middle of rust central... you have to get real with what you expect to buy. Either plan to tow it home and/or do some body work, or forget it.

    A clean, running, driving 5-6-7 four-door starts at $5000. With a six.

An original drag car from the '60s, no motor or trans, flip nose, motor set back, I know one that $15,000 might take. Maybe.

The 80's Caddy has been done, I saw one at a car show a couple months ago. Had a stock Caddy 425 in it as I recall.

    First mistake.

    Second mistake.

    The nail in the coffin.

I tired giving you the benefit of the doubt when you wanted to paint an Italian flag on your hood. Thats cool man, I'm Italian too, I can almost dig it. But this is too much.

You'd have about 5k and plenty of hours into a car that is still not what your really looking for.

Imagine putting that money into an actual Hot Rod.

  27. Besides all of this shit I was wondering...With the mention of the 58 Chevy candidate for a gasser riddle me this....The x framed GM cars made into gassers or drag cars, did they have excessive twist due to the frame configuration? Got me wondering....
