I'm building a 55 Chevy truck for a guy. He gave me a ****** out of a 93 Chevy truck, 1/2 ton. It's all electronic, speedo, everything. What is it? Thanks
probably a 4L60E. does it look like a 700R4 but has more wiring connectors? if so that's what it is. if it was from a bigger truck it could be a 4L80E, then it would look like a stretched TH400
actually I am confused....only I call em that.... they are technicly 4L60Es... which is really just an electronic 700r4. Just an early 4L60E...1993 might of been the first year??
Yes. Is it a good ****** to use? Can I use it without the computer? Will an aftermarket speedo work with it? Thanks
You have to use a computer with it, thats what controls the shifting...There are a few companys that make stand alone computers for it...What engine are you using?http://store.summitracing.com/partd...&part=TCI%2D377000&N=700+115&autoview=sku Heres one from summit, that I found quickly...
I personally would talk the guy into getting a 700r4 for a driver, 4l60s are great when working right but very expensive to rebuild, I have a 4l60 in my 56 dodge, it cost me $1400 just for a basic rebuild.....But if he is just going to use it as a weekend warrior then the th400 is ideal....imho Harmon
$1400 for a rebuild, damn you could buy a whole running truck for that. And probably rebuild a 56-64 Hydramatic for that money, too. A late 700R4 is a pretty tough trans to break unless you set out to do it intentionally, it might be a little easier to use one of those instead.
Stick with the overdrive, he'll thank you for it later. But go to the non-electronic 700r4 or 2004r. Both very good transmissions with a few upgrades. Good luck
